ROUND THREE: LINDENWOOD UPSETS CARROLL 42-35 WITH LAST-MINUTE TOUCHDOWN
12/05/09 - When the Carroll College football team collected on its sideline for a tradition that never changes win or lose, the Saints’ fight song never sounded so solemn.
Not since another snowstorm, in 2006, had they lost in Nelson Stadium, and not since then had they finished a year without a berth in the NAIA national championship game.
But against a Lindenwood University (Mo.) team with an explosive offense and program growing in strength, Carroll College was simply outmatched.

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN HAVE TO BE THE SMARTEST PLAYERS ON THE FIELD
12/05/09 - Their duty seems routine.
Throw one’s own body in front of a speeding linebacker, punish thyself under the constant barrage of hits, slaps and elbows and try desperately to keep that toenail that has come under the steady, wrenching cleat of a neighboring lineman from tearing out of its socket.
They are often the biggest brutes on the field. Hulking behemoths whose bellies hang over their belts and jiggle as they trudge their way to the line.
12/05/09 - Carroll College knows the danger its next opponent presents.
Almost one year to the day that the Saints defeated Lindenwood University (Mo.) 38-37 in the NAIA semifinals, the two teams clash again at Nelson Stadium.
