House approves bison hunt plan

By the AP - 04/24/03

HELENA (AP) - The House gave final approval Wednesday to a measure reinstating the controversial hunts for bison leaving Yellowstone National Park.

Senate Bill 395 would let the commission that governs the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks set the guidelines for bison hunts.

Wildlife officials have the new hunts could start as soon as 2004, but would be more like a regular big game season than the bison season that was closed down in the early 1990s amid national criticism.
