Oscar Ackerman, 75, passed away on Sept. 17, 2005, at St. Peter's Hospital in Helena.
Oscar was born Oct. 16, 1929, on the family farm in Mound City, S.D., and he raised his family in South Dakota. He was currently residing with his wife at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Helena.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Elgerlien; his children, Gaye (Pat) and Ivey of Helena; and Von (Joyce) and Jon (Sue) of Denver; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Brea, Teresa, Katie, Matt and Amy; and his great-grandchildren, Clay and Stephanie. He is also survived by his sister, Cleo (Walt) of Whitehall, and his brother, Marvin (Erna) of Dickinson, N.D.
Oscar enjoyed camping, fishing and carpentry. He made his own sausage and wine, and he loved gardening and sharing his harvest with his family. His grandchildren loved the jokes he played on them.
Private family services to celebrate Oscar's life were held on Sept. 19 at the Hagler-Anderson Chapel.
