Josh Glahn is a starting defensive end for the MSU-Northern football team. So far this season for the 5-4 Lights, Glahn has amassed 37 total tackles (22 solo and 15 assists), including four tackles-for-loss, with two sacks, three caused fumbles, four pass hurries and two pass break-ups.

Glahn was a two-year starting defensive end for Capital High in 2000 and 2001, helping the Bruins to an undefeated State championship his junior year. As a senior, the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder was instrumental in the Bruins’ 41-0 win over Butte, which was the Bruins 26th consecutive victory for the all-time Class AA record.

Another of his better performances came against C.M. Russell, when “Glahn led the Bruins defensive efforts by getting consistent pressure on Justin Hartman, sacking the CMR quarterback twice,” according to the IR.

His efforts were recognized when he was selected as Western AA honorable mention defensive end. On the baseball diamond, as a member of the 2001 state champion Helena Senators, the sweet-swinging Glahn batted .245, with a .335 on-base-percentage, rapping eight doubles and scoring 32 runs.

Collegiately, Glahn has buffed-up to a sturdy 6-2, 225-pounds. He made his presence felt at Nelson Stadium earlier this season in a loss to the Saints, when he and Marc McBryan were able to stuff Glahn’s old Bruin teammate, Tyler Emmert, on an attempted fourth-and-one quarterback sneak.

“Josh has done a great job this year in getting stronger and quicker in order to play every down,” said Northern head coach Mark Samson. “He treats practices and games with a lot of enthusiasm and emotion, and is intensely loyal to our program. A tough, hard-nosed player, Josh has a great ‘motor’ and always gives 100 percent.”

Glahn, who is the son of Wendy Nelson of Helena, is majoring in physical education and education.
