Billings motorcycle ride contributed $6M to local economy
By The Associated Press - 07/05/06
The two-day Harley Owners Group rally attracted Harley enthusiasts from throughout the United States and Canada.
John Brewer, president of the Billings Area Chamber of Commerce, said that although final numbers haven’t been tallied, rally attendees are estimated to have spent around $6 million in the Billings area, Brewer said Monday.
Bill Dutcher, general manager of MetraPark, where the rally took place, said the county-owned entertainment complex is expecting to make a nice profit off of the H.O.G. rally, although financial information wasn’t immediately available.
‘‘Without exception, everybody I talked to had a great time,’’ Dutcher said.
Thirty-six hours after the Harley Owners Group rally wrapped up in Billings, tourism promoters announced another motorcycle group rally. The Gold Wing Road Riders Association will return to Billings July 4-7, 2007. The Wing Ding is expected to bring up to 14,000 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle owners to Billings. It will be the third time in 10 years that Gold Wing owners have gathered in Billings.
