Man shoots 6 at Seattle Jewish agency; 1 dead
By WILLIAM YARDLEY - The New York Times - 07/29/06
The Seattle police did not initially identify the suspect. They said he was arrested less than 30 minutes after the first report came in to emergency dispatchers. At 4:03 p.m., according to Assistant Chief Nick Metz, dispatchers received a call saying people had been shot and hostages taken at the offices of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, a fundraising and planning organization.
The man spoke with the police by phone before he was arrested, though the police would not describe the conversations. He was confronted by officers and peacefully gave up,’’ Metz said.
The authorities said they did not believe the suspect was acting as part of a terrorist group.
We believe at this point that it’s just a lone individual acting out some kind of antagonism toward this particular organization,’’ said David Gomez, an FBI agent.
