Icy rollover south of Victor kills one
VICTOR (AP) A one-vehicle rollover on icy U.S. 93 south of here left one person dead, the Montana Highway Patrol said.
A small pickup truck went out of control early Friday, overturned and caught fire, the patrol said. The driver, traveling alone, was thrown from the vehicle.
The patrol withheld the name of the person killed and the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Department said Sunday that information from the county coroner was not available.
Speed was a factor in the crash, the patrol said.
Victim’s parents sue drunk driver MISSOULA (AP) The parents of a man who was killed in a drunken driving crash have filed a civil lawsuit against the driver.
Mary and Earl Mineo filed the lawsuit in District Court against Kenneth Sonny’’ Martin for the Aug. 30, 2005 death of their son, Timothy Mineo, 21.
The lawsuit alleges negligence and wrongful death. The Mineos are seeking compensation for medical and funeral expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, mental anguish, and other damages.
Martin was sentenced to 30 years with the Department of Corrections, with all but five suspended, based on a plea agreement drafted by the Mineos and the family of Trent Robinson, 22. Robinson was also killed when Martin’s car, traveling 60 mph, crashed into a parked car on a Missoula street.
Martin, whose blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit at 0.165, also lost his driving privileges for 30 years.
Nursing-home office manager sentenced
BUTTE (AP) A former office manager at a Butte nursing home was sentenced to 280 hours of community service and ordered to repay about $124,000 he stole.
Lee Anderson, who pleaded guilty to felony theft in June, was given a four-year deferred sentence Thursday by District Judge Kurt Krueger.
Court records said Anderson diverted deposits and took money from patients’ trust accounts, then changed financial records to cover up the thefts from the Butte Convalescent center.
One auditor who investigated Anderson’s bookkeeping concluded he took $124,116 between 1998 and October 2003.
Lottery players miss weekend jackpots
HELENA (AP) Players missed the jackpots in weekend drawings for the lotteries offered in Montana.
Players won $13,950 on sales of $49,793 in Montana Cash. In the Wild Card game, Montana players won $12,218 on sales of $24,600. Winnings included $5,000 for a ticket bought at an Albertson’s in Billings.
Hot Lotto players in the state won $10,820 on sales of $46,715. Montana players of Powerball won $14,157 on sales of $137,554.
