TOWNSEND--Burglars broke into Wit's Wheels & Deals early Wednesday morning and stole two valuable, restored vehicles and at least $10,000 worth of tools, according to business owner Cal Whitney.

Missing are a red, 1972 Chevy El Camino SS454, valued at $9,000; and a red, 1978 Corvette, priced at $17,000.

Other stolen items include a computer, a new, snap-on scanner for automotive diagnostics; a 110-volt, wire-feed welder; a blue, jump box used for jumping vehicles and miscellaneous tools.

Whitney is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

The burglary, which was discovered at 9 a.m. Wednesday, is believed to have occurred sometime between the hours of 1 and 5 a.m., said Broadwater County Sheriff Brenda Ludwig.

She asks that anyone who may have information or who observed any suspicious activity at the business to call the Broadwater County Sheriff’s Department at 266-3441 or their local law enforcement office.

"Those two cars are bright red and eye catching," said Whitney. "The El Camino is very loud with a newly built motor. It also has a black, vinyl, tonneau cover over the box.

This is the third burglary over the past few years to occur at Whitney's business, which is located along Highway 287 on the south end of Townsend. "I never had anything of this magnitude," he said.
