Tennis fun
We would like to give a big thank you to the Montana Tennis Association for providing an evening of tennis, instruction and fun for the matches in our program at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Helena. What a beautiful facility at the Helena Indoor Tennis Center with caring folks from our community. A special thank you to MC, Leroy, Lindsey and Sandy for their helpful pointers and enthusiasm. Our matches had a ton of fun and learned a lot about the great game of tennis.

34 W. 6th Ave. Party thanks
As co-chairs of the games committee for the 2007 Senior All Night Party, we would like to personally thank the many people who helped to make this a positively wonderful party for our graduating seniors. Our heart felt thanks go out to the wonderful people who worked on our committee, the other SANP committees, the parents who worked game shifts the night of the party, the Civic Center crew, Gary, Chipper and Dan, who helped set up and take down. We also received terrific donations from local businesses, senior parents, game providers and truly caring people such as Dr. Scott and Dr. Terri Pargot. Unfortunately, we can not list everyone here due to space constraints, but there will be a huge thank you in the paper. We do not want to forget anyone as it took everyone doing their part to pull off this massive endeavor. Helena really loves its kids!

Column a crock
In response to the June 5 Bailey Molineux article entitled, “Childless Couple Happiest,” I have to comment that it was the biggest crock of beans I have ever read. The childless psychologist consultant who discovered that couples with children are motivated to have children for the sake of having someone to take care of them in their old age, obviously, has never held a newborn baby in their arms.

More on evolution
Over the years I have listened to the passionate debate between two religions. The debate between God’s creationist and Darwin’s evolutionist. One side believes in creative intelligent design and the other believes in an accident of chaos.
The creationist believes that we are a moral, spiritual being of God’s creation and more than just another “animal.”
The evolutionist believes that there is no God and man evolved from animals or is just a “little smarter animal.” Some teach creationism to their children, but all our children are taught the contradicting evolutionary theory as fact in our schools. Well, the debate should be over because current archaeology has shown that the evolutionist dinosaur timeline is wrong, making the whole evolutionary theory wrong. The conclusive evidence is well laid out in the book “Secrets of the Ica Stones and Nazca Lines” by Dennis Swift. I know this book may help some out of the pit of evolutionism, but probably most will continue in their ignorance because they cannot deal with the reality that there is a God.
We all choose where we place our faith, but should our children continue to be taught the false religion of evolution in our schools?

Teacher explains
I would like to explain how I communicated with parents and administration about this film. At the beginning of the year, all parents signed a disclosure document which explained the major themes and works studied through the year, the Holocaust was listed with our two major works: a play based on Anne Frank’s diary and “Night” by Elie Weisel. The history of WWII was covered by our social studies teacher concurrently.
We discussed many issues of the Holocaust in detail and its relation to our lives today. The culmination of the unit was for us to watch a “PG” edited version of “Schindler’s List,” allowing an hour before lunch for discussion.
I brought the option of showing it on “Team Day” to my team of teachers; we agreed to show the film. I approached my building administrator about the film, as per last year’s success and the film’s rating, he approved the viewing. I asked if it was necessary to hand out a disclosure for parents like I did the year before, acknowledging the dire content and I was told it would not be necessary. Our district policy is that PG-13 is the highest rating to be shown at the eighth grade and that all films must be related to curriculum. I have not been contacted by a parent with a problem regarding this film; I have only been contacted by parents wishing their student would have been able to see this film.

Mining and deer
Recently there have been items published regarding the adverse impact that mineral development on public lands has on mule deer populations. But there are many issues that affect deer population cycles. If anyone is really interested in the facts they should read the “The Wyoming Mule Deer Initiative” draft dated March 16, 2007, prepared by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and is available on their web site. Nowhere in this report do they claim that mineral development is the primary cause of a reduction in large buck populations or that banning mineral development will bring back the big bucks. Deer are prone to “boom and bust” cycles and without a planned harvest through hunting will always increase until they overgraze their browse and then decrease dramatically. There is and always will be more game on developed land than on undeveloped land. Ask any farmer.
Don’t let people and organizations with hidden agendas steer the boat. Good management can consider all land uses and all avenues of increasing funds to become better and better stewards of the land. It is possible to extract minerals and still be good stewards. Let your representatives know that you support reasoned development.
