Variety spice of health fair
By JOE MENDEN, Independent Record - 01/14/08
According to Caitlyn Burda, coordinator of the fair, this is a unique event because, unlike other health fairs, this one has presenters from a full spectrum of the health care industry.
“We include a whole lot of choices,” Burda said.
Among those with booths at the fair will be medical doctors offices, St. Peter’s Hospital and Shodair Hospital, insurance companies, naturopathic physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists and a host of nontraditional care providers.
There are five speakers scheduled to give presentations:
n 4:30-5 p.m. — Hearing is a Family Affair, Rebecca Wisnoskie, Costco Hearing Aid Center; n 5:10-5:40 p.m. — Cancer Demystified, Betsy Smith, Sletten Cancer Institute of Benefis Healthcare;
n 5:50-6:20 p.m. — Behind the Scenes of Biofeedback, Carol Wilcock, Quantum Biofeedback Specialists;
n 6:30- 7 p.m. — Stress: How it Steals Your Ability to Heal, Matthew Fischer, Fischer Physical Therapy;
n 7:10-7:40 p.m. — What is Addiction?, Kay Flinn, Counseling and Consultant Services.
Sound Health Imaging will be on hand offering free demonstrations of its 4-D ultrasound equipment, which provides a more lifelike view than traditional ultrasounds can give.
There will also be massage therapists on hand giving free chair massages.
Representatives from local health clubs will give live demonstrations of exercise classes.
Fairgoers will also have the opportunity to get their bone density tested, have a cancer risk assessment done, get their blood pressure tested and receive a biofeedback test.
There will also be food available from Mom’s Soup & Salad and the Real Food Market and Deli.
The fair is from 4-8 p.m. at the Helena Civic Center.
