It’s been a long, long wait for Eddie

What can we tell you about Eddie? He’s a big boy with shiny, short fur that is easy to groom and golden eyes. He has always been an independent cat who doesn’t like to be picked up, but he will come to you on his own. He likes other cats, dogs and older children. Eddie enjoys going outside and would probably be a very happy indoor-outdoor cat. We think he could be a low-maintenance cat, one who doesn’t demand too much time and attention and would be happy just sharing a good home.
Like some of our other long-term cats, Eddie had to wait for several months when the cat room was closed to adoptions because of ringworm last spring and summer. Eddie was featured as Pet of the Week last January and had families interested in adopting him, but then the shelter was closed again for a while and Eddie’s potential adopters faded away.
Eddie never got ringworm or any other illness during his stay, and he has a clean bill of health. Shelter staff has worked hard to keep him happy, healthy and available for adoption for nearly two years.
But Eddie has become stressed by his long stay in the cat room, and he is making less effort to greet and make friends with visitors who might adopt him. We’ve seen this before in animals who are at the shelter too long — and we know that very often, once they are out and in a “real” home, they settle down and become wonderful animal companions.
Eddie needs someone who will give him a chance in a new environment. Like all animals at the shelter, he can be taken home on a “Pawsability,” which is a trial period in your home before any adoption needs to become final. You can meet Eddie and many other wonderful cats and dogs waiting to be adopted at the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, 1712 East Custer Ave. Call the shelter at 442-1660.
