Of course they’re bitter

By Mike Hankins, P.O. Box 455 - 04/21/08

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama is currently being taken to task by the other presidential candidates of both parties for publically stating that he found small town Americans to be “discouraged and bitter” over their lot in life?

If anyone could be labeled “arrogant and aloof” it is those other presidential candidates that, having been out of touch with real America for years, deny the truth of Barack Obama’s words!

As the former host of the Helena TV production “Voices of the Veterans,” I still receive mail and phone calls decrying America’s neglect of our economically disadvantaged citizens.

America, do you really think the workers in the steel mills of the East, having been told their employment has been curtailed and their mills closed forever, are NOT bitter?

Do you think the loggers and millworkers of our West, told to find other permanent employment, are NOT frustrated? Can you blame the peoples of the southwest, facing constant trespass of their land by illegal immigrants, for choosing the gun to right the wrongs being inflicted upon them?

Wake up, America! You are in far more danger from “America's dispossessed” than you ever were from foreign terrorists!

" "say huh", evidently you never spent time in the military otherwise you would know that military pensions are not all that civilians believe them to be.

Those whom serve in the military don't do it for the pay because there are far more higher paying jobs in the civilian environment.

" Obama blamed their bitterness on the misconception that small town people "cling" to guns and religion as a way to explain why they don't agree with him on his views. If they were bitter due to losing their jobs, then why didn't he say that in the first place? He has given three explanations for his comment, which one do you believe, if any? The government wants to keep the poor, poor. Its a good tactic to get votes. You are poor because you wanna be!
mastergunny-I want to thank you for your service, I greatly appreciate it. "

" Lemme guess, gunny ...... you're drawing a damn good retirement or some other form of government income and benefits ... that makes YOU an exception in the country.... there are a great many of us who have served our country in a great variety of service ... and the majority of us have NOTHING as a result ... that is part of the "bitter" concept.... the rich get richer and the poor get poorer ... "

" Let me put my whole proposition in one sentence. I believe in the dignity of the individual, in Goverment by law, in respect for the truth, and in a gentle and, loving God; these belief's are worth my life to me and more; if that makes me bitter, and clingy, than you don't deserve my vote in the first place. "

" Well said PURPLE. I usually don't agree with you, but this time you nailed it. Unfortuately the lemming snObama's don't see it. I for one if Obama gets the nomination will hold my nose and vote for McCain. "

" Your comments are exactly right -- this is what makes Obama so refreshing-he isn't afraid to speak up about issues that everyone else only talks about in private. A CNN poll last week asked viewers how they considered themselves; a full 66% of nearly 9000 respondents consider themselves angry and bitter. To think that isn't the mood throughout America is to be totally ignorant and blind to what Bush has done to this country in the past 7 years. Now today he is in New Orleans, once again trying to turn us into 'north american union' with Mexico and Canada. God help us all until this bunch are out of office. "

" You didn't get it. Obama stated that folks CLING to religion and their guns out of frustration. The vast majority of folks DO NOT cling to religion or their guns because of their situation in life, they do so because they BELIEVE IN GOD, and they BELIEVE IN THEIR 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS, something those on the left want to take away from the rest.

If we're talking about folks being bitter about losing their jobs, I guess the folks whom built BUGGY WHIPS, COVERED WAGONS, WAGON WHEELS, etc., were just as bitter when modern technology put an end to their trade.

If you performing a job which will become obsolete due to advances in technology, then you better be prepared to be out of work and begin looking for another vocation.

Imagine all of the laborers who lost their jobs when steam shovels came into vogue and the multi-person crews whom were operating those steam shovels found themselves out of work when single person operated front-end loaders came into vogue.

Here's an idea, lets give up on technology and return to the 18th or 19th century.
