Rocky Mountain Development Council’s Head Start is all about arming families with tools to help their children succeed in learning and throughout life, according to Carrie Reynolds, parent involvement coordinator for Head Start.

One way it accomplishes that is supplying education materials to families involved in Head Start, which is paid for through fundraising.

The third annual Eggstravaganza is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Valley Farms and the hope is to raise $25,000 to support family education.

Reynolds is coordinating the event in hopes of providing funding for school-to-home projects, which in previous years have been funded by a grant that is expiring. School-to-home projects provide a new book and a coinciding project for children to do with their parents at home every month. The lessons range from being kind to others to separation anxiety.

The idea is to encourage parental involvement in the learning of their children.

“So (parents) are teaching their children, which supports Head Start’s philosophy that parents are the child’s first and best teacher,” Reynolds said.

The event includes a live and silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and beverages by Benny’s Bistro and music by Jazzbiz.

Theme baskets donated by area businesses are the focus of the silent auction. There is a breakfast basket complete with a griddle and warming tray designed and donated by Mountain West Bank. The Lewis and Clark Library donated a “Charlotte’s Web” basket and Stahly Engineering donated a garden-themed basket. For more information, call 457-7306.
