Thirty-six players are ready to test Old Works Golf Course in Anaconda Monday, May 12, for the opportunity to advance to regional qualifying and a chance to play in the United States Open Golf Championship June 12-15 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, Calif.

Twenty-two professionals and 14 amateur contestants from around the region, Montana, California, Arizona and Canada will compete for two spots that are up for grabs and the right to advance to one of 13 sectional qualifying sites.

The sectional qualifying sites are the last hurdle players must clear to play in the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.

Montana players scheduled to compete include professional Jim Bob Coleman from Billings, who has qualified a number of times at Old Works, Tyler Erickson from Bozeman, last year’s low qualifier, professional Larry Barber, son of professional golf legend Miller Barber and amateur Billy Thompson from Great Falls.

The first players are scheduled to tee off at 8 a.m. Spectators are welcome to come out and watch .
