MSU-B names semifinalists in coaching search
BILLINGS — Montana State-Billings has released the names of 10 of the 12 semifinalists for the men’s basketball coaching job.
Two are former point guards for the Yellowjackets — Pryor Orser and Jamie Stevens. Orser is the head coach at the Colorado School of Mines and played on MSU-Billings’ 1987 NCAA Division II Final Four team. Stevens is the all-time assists leader for the Yellowjackets and is the men’s coach at Central Wyoming.
Another candidate is Henry Clark, an assistant on the Final Four team who has also been a head coach at Cal State Bakersfield.
Rocky Mountain head coach Bill Dreikosen is among the final 12, along with former Idaho coach George Pfeiffer, who has also coached at Rocky and Lewis-Clark State.
The other candidates are: Don Brubacher, Tabor College in Kansas; Tony Longa, formerly of Florida Southern; Shane Murphy, University of Sioux Falls; Shane Rinner, associate head coach at Alaska-Anchorage; and Greg Zimmerman, Alderson Broaddus in West Virginia. Two other candidates are NCAA Division II coaches in the west and declined to have their names released.
The search committee posed some more questions for the dozen semifinalists and plans to meet on Thursday to pare the list to eight, who will be interviewed by phone. Following the phone interviews, the committee plans to bring up to five finalists to Billings for on-campus interviews.
MSU-Billings is searching for a men's coach after declining to renew the contract of Craig Carse after 13 seasons.
Belgrade track coach Scott Hill resigns
BELGRADE — Belgrade High track and field coach Scott Hill is retiring to take an insurance job.
His last meet will be the state Class A track and field championships in Bozeman on Friday and Saturday.
Hill has coached girls basketball, football, cross country and has been Belgrade’s head track coach for the past 17 years. He has also coached girls basketball in Dillon for seven years.
The 47-year-old Hill says he’s going to miss his kids.
