Voters Tuesday defeated both levies that were on the ballot in Broadwater County.

Residents voted 910 to 755 against an 11.12-mill permanent levy for the Broadwater County Sheriff’s Department.

The levy would have been used to boost sheriff deputy salaries, purchase equipment and provide deputy training.

A four-year 12-mill permanent road levy also lost by a vote of 1,005 to 656.

Two candidates will move on to the fall general election ballot in two county commission district races.

In District 1 Laura Obert and Tim Ravndal garnered the most votes, with 843 and 478, respectively. Melissa Tuemmler trailed with 282.

In District 2, Elaine Graveley and Michael Delger garnered the most votes, 952 and 414. Cal Janes had 226.

The Broadwater County commission races are nonpartisan.

Jefferson County voters approved three levies Tuesday, a four-year, 10-mill levy to support the Jefferson County Health Department and a 3-mill, four-year levy for the county weed district.

The tallies were 2,163 for the health department levy and 1,376 opposed. The weed levy was 2,110 in favor and 1,429 against.

And Basin voters decided to keep the city street lights on, by a vote of 41 to 33 in favor of the Basin Light District levy.

Ray Barnicoat and Dave Kirsch will move to the fall general election ballot, and vie for the County Commission District 2 seat being vacated by Chuck Notbohm.

Tallies were Kirsch 1,433, Barnicoat, 1,140 and Michael Ries with 825.
