Area organizations offer summer sports camps

Capital volleyball camp
Bruin Volleyball Camp will be held at the Capital High School gym the week of June 23-27.
Camp for students entering grades 5-7 is June 23-25 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. ($35).
Students entering grades 8-9 will attend June 23-25 from 1-3:30 p.m. The cost will be $45. Tenth-12th grade students will attend camp on June 24-25 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and June 26-27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $55.

Carroll College boys basketball camp
The Carroll boys basketball camp, under the direction of Carroll College head coach Gary Turcott and his staff, will once again be held this summer. The week two camp (June 23-27) is open for boys entering grades five through 12 in Fall of 2008.
Cost of the camp is $210 for off campus players and $350 for on campus players. Camp coaches will include current as well as past Carroll players.
“We have a system for teaching fundamentals and skills. The camp allows us to pass on these concepts to younger players,” Turcott said.

Hoop It Up basketball camp
The East Helena “Hoop It Up” basketball camp will be taking place July 1-3 for boys and girls going into 1-4th grade.
Girls going into the 5th-8th grade girls will go from July 7-10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and boys going into the 5th-8th grade will go from July 14-17th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. First and-second grade boys and girls will go from 9-11 a.m.
The third and fourh grade boys and girls will go from 1-3 p.m. The camp will take place at East Valley Middle School in East Helena. The first through fourth grade camps will focus on fundamentals, ball-handling, passing, shooting, footwork, defense, and games.
The fifth through eighth grade camps will focus on fundamentals and station work in the morning and competitions in the afternoon.
Fifth-eighth graders will need to bring a sack lunch to eat at noon. Each camper for all camps will receive a camp shirt, camp basketball, ice cream bars (first through fourh graders), and pizza for fifth through eighth graders on the last day of camp at lunch.
Cost of the camp is $45 for the 1-4th grade camps and $100 for the 5-8th grade boys and girls camps. If you have any questions on the camp, please contact Ty Ridgeway at 431-7136. Capital High boys basketball camp
Capital High boys basketball coach Guy Almquist will be hosting the Bruin Basketball Camps for boys entering grades four through nine this summer.
Fundamentals are stressed with special emphasis on footwork, passing, dribbling, defense, rebounding and shooting. The camp features contests, prizes, and awards each day. Every player in camp will receive a Bruin T-Shirt.
Two camps are scheduled for July 7-10. The first, for fourth, fifth and sixth grade boys is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while the seventh, eighth and ninth grade camp is from 1:30 to 5 p.m. All sessions will be held at Capital High School.

Helena High volleyball camp
The Helena High volleyball camp will be held July 15-17 at the Capital High gym.
It will have two sessions. The morning session is for grades 5-8 and will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
The afternoon session will be from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
The camp director will be Helena High coach Sheila Williams.
The Bengals staff, and former players will help coach. There will be direct instruction on individual and team skills and prizes will be awarded for various competitions throughout the week.

Bruins junior basketball camp
Capital High School coach Bill Pilgeram will be running the Junior Bruin Basketball Camps for boys and girls entering grades one through four this summer.
The camp has been popular for young players interested in an introduction to the passing, dribbling and shooting fundamentals of basketball. The camp features contests, prizes, and awards each day. Every player will receive a free basketball and Bruin T-shirt.
Dates for the camp are Monday, July 14 through Wednesday, July 16. Camp for first and second graders is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon; third grade from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and fourth grade from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
All sessions are for boys or girls and will be held at Four Georgians Elementary School with 8-foot baskets.

Summer horse camp
For those who love horses, there is a chance to learn to ride and take care of them this summer at horse camp.
Learn all the basic steps you’ll need to know, on your journey to a lifetime of enjoying horses.
Campers will learn to catch their horse, brush, clean their feet, saddle and bridle them. Riders will learn to start, stop, turn and back their horses, ride in an arena and on trails, work on circles and o-mok-see events at a walk, trot and lope, controlling their horses at all times.
The camp will run throughout the summer. Camp dates are June 16-20, June 23-27, June 30-July 4, July 7-11, July 28-August 1, with the last camp week being August 4-8.
Two sessions will be held per day. Sessions are from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Campers may choose morning or afternoon session. Camp is one week long, Monday-Friday and open to students grade one through 12, then adults (only if spots are available.)
All riding levels are welcome.
We provide horses, tack, and helmets. Campers need to bring shoes or boots with heels suitable for riding, a water bottle, sun block and a coat.
Cost is $150 per week, $50 deposit (non-refundable).

Bruins football camp
The Bruin football camp for grades 1-4 will be held July 28-30 at Norwest Park from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

Bengal soccer camp
The Bengal soccer camp will be held for boys and girls from July 21-24.
Grades 1-8 will meet from 9-10:30 a.m. and grades 9-12 will meet from 6:30-8:30 a.m.
The camp is open to everyone and will allow players to get a lot of individual attention.

Challenger Sports’ British Soccer Camp
With the spring soccer season coming to an end, now is the time to be planning on summer soccer camps.
The Helena Youth Soccer Association is once again hosting Challenger Sports’ British Soccer Camp at Siebel Soccer Park July 28 n Aug. 1. There are four different clinics being offered.
Recreational Player Development: 9 a.m.-Noon; ages 10-18
Competitive Player Development: 6 p.m.-9 p.m.; ages 10-18
Team Clinic: 9-a.m.-Noon; U-10 to U-18 (for whole teams participating at camp together)
Goalkeeper Clinic: 9 a.m.-Noon; ages 10-18
High School Pre-Season Training: 6 p.m.-9 p.m.; ages 14-18
The fee for each clinic is $105, which includes a ball and T-shirt, as well as a free replica jersey for those who sign up online before June 10.
The British Soccer Camp clinics are a great way for players to get more touches on the ball and improve their soccer skills while learning from European soccer players. The High School Pre-Season Clinic also helps players get in shape before the beginning of their season.

Annual Girls’
Basketball School
Helena, MT-Carroll College Head Women’s Basketball Coach Shawn Nelson announced there is still openings for the 36th Annual Carroll College Girls’ Basketball School. The dates are June 30-July 4 and July 7-11 for girls entering the 5-12 grades in the fall of 2008. Capital City Tennis Camp
The 6th annual Capital City Tennis Camp will take place August 4-8 at the Capital High tennis courts. Scott Harris, Capital High tennis coach and teaching professional at Last Chance Tennis Center will be assisted by former all-staters, Nick McCarvel and Rena Satre Meloy. The clinic will stress fun, fundamentals, and match strategy. Friday will be a mini tournament. Elementary and middlesSchool will be from 8 a.m until 1 p.m., with the high schoolers playing from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. The cost is $125 and includes lunch, drinks, and prizes.
