Big ugly hole
By Larry Zollinger, 2570 Cody Drive - 07/18/08
When Helena Sand and Gravel originally said they wanted to change from the former planned site to the present plan, they told us there would be a thousand foot buffer zone around the site.
Now they are filing suit to mine the entire 440 acres. After all the lies and innuendos, I don’t think they should have been permitted at all.
They have no concern for people buying homes in surrounding subdivisions. They are going to leave a big ugly hole, just like the present site.
Also, our commissioners and the DEQ don’t seem to really care either.
They are going to make developer, Mr. Hamlin, rebuild Lake Helena Drive. Are they going to make Helena Sand and Gravel do the same and put in turn lanes for the heavy truck traffic. I could go on but I wont.

" I guess you missed the part in the newspaper article where Helena Sand and Gravel is going to pay for widening the intersection in E. Helena at Hwy 12 East.
Hey Helena Sand and Gravel, why subject yourselves any longer.
Buy 2000 acres out by Silver City and turn it into a 1900 acre gravel pit.
Then turn around and charge the folks in Helena DOUBLE and the folks in east Helena TRIPLE what you now charge for your product. "
