Argument turns bloody, leads to felony assault charge
By ANGELA BRANDT - Independent Record - 07/22/08
Sarah Nicole Brooks called police at about 2 a.m. Saturday morning, reporting that her friend came to her residence on the 2800 block of National Avenue and attacked her, but upon further inspection, officers found that she had allegedly assaulted the man, according to documents filed in Justice Court Monday.
Brooks told police the 47-year-old man came to her house uninvited and began yelling at her but she wasn’t sure what they were arguing about. The man told officers the two had been hanging out all day and Brooks attacked him when he had asked her about a possible infidelity.
The man suffered a one-inch laceration to his back and bruising on both sides of his neck and forehead, the documents say.
Brooks told investigators she had been celebrating that night because she was released from probation the previous day and had drank about a half bottle of whiskey. After speaking with Brooks’ probation officer, police learned that Brooks was in fact still on probation and she also was arrested for violating the conditions of her probation, court documents note.
Police arrived on the scene and found Brooks bleeding profusely from a laceration of about an inch-and-a-half on her left foot. According to the documents, she said the altercation became physical and during the pushing glassware was broken. During the scuffle, she stepped on some glass, cutting her foot, Brooks told police. While medical personnel attended to Brook’s wound, one of the officers checked out the residence and noticed a small kitchen knife.
“Trails of bloody footprints and pools of blood were noted throughout the apartment,” the documents note.
Due to the large amount of blood, the officer asked Brooks again if the man was injured and she answered that she didn’t know.
Meanwhile, a man matching the alleged victim’s description had been inside a gas station on Enterprise Avenue and told the clerk he had been stabbed.
The employee asked if she could get him help but the man said no that he needed to use the phone to call his mother, which he did and then left the store.
An officer redialed the number and the victim answered the phone and said Brooks had stabbed him in the back and then hit him in the head. Police then met the man at his residence, where he was treated for his injuries.
The victim said he didn’t call the police to report the assault because he is also on probation.
