Breastfeeding at the fair

By Kim Johnson, 663 N. Warren - 08/20/08

Because so many Helenans are unaware of a nursing mother’s right to nurse in public and an employer’s obligation to provide a sanitary place for a nursing mother to breastfeed or pump, perhaps an off-the-beaten-path booth can be set up at next year’s fair/rodeo that would not only provide a shaded place for nursing moms but would raise the public’s awareness at the same time?

Disney World of Orlando has such a place, with rocking chairs, a diaper-changing station and bottles of water for a mother’s rehydration. Helena is no Orlando, for certain, but a few donations and some volunteers would do the trick.

Just a suggestion from a breastfeeding mom. (Sign me up to volunteer.)

" Kim, what a common-sense and appropriate idea. Too bad this hadn't been thought of years ago! Good job! "
