Down on Dems

By Bruce Supalla, 20 Sweetgrass Road - 08/22/08

My first vote was cast in 1972 and I pulled the lever for McGovern. Not long after, I realized that the party of JFK had drastically changed. I no longer had anything in common with the Democratic Party and have voted Republican ever since. On practically every issue in succeeding years, the Democratic leadership has gone beyond tolerance to the point of adopting every far-left creed. Surely they couldn’t go any farther?

During the last election cycle, the DNC’s convention platform included the phrase “abortion should be safe, legal and rare.” Flash forward to 2008 and the plank now reads “The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.” I’m sure Barack Obama feels better about his three votes to allow doctors to murder infants who are born alive during an abortion.

Whatever you might have left in common with the Democratic party, is it really enough to keep you there? If you’re pro-life (and I know many of you are), those in power don’t have room for you.

" Alan_Rainey - You'll have to pardon my skepticism that you're actually the same Alan Rainey who has written multiple letters to the editor against Obama and Democrats in general. (I darn near spit out my cereal when I first read one of your posts yesterday morning.) I'd be surprised though if the moderators would allow a screen name of a frequent submitter of letters to the editor to post a comment without verifying the identity. Can you provide some details about how you changed your mind & then changed it back?

Methinks somebody is having some fun w/ Mr. Rainey! Or he's having some fun with us! "

" Good point, ematt. This is yet another "magic of the marketplace" deregulation conjob by the Republicans.

Regarding purple's media conspiracy not to report on the inflation that raged during the Clinton years... the reason they don't report it is that it didn't happen. Here is a graph of annual inflation rates since 1990: http://inflationdata.com/inflation/images/charts/Annual_Inflation/annual_inflation_chart.htm

Notice that inflation raged during Bush I's term, as high as 6.29%. It trended downward throughout the Clinton years, never exceeding 3.5%. It was nice having the grownups in charge, wasn't it? But then inflation fired up again under Bush II with his nutty tax cuts for those who didn't need them. Inflation dropped in the aftermath of 9/11, then really took off after Bush ran up the national debt to pay for his Iraq fiasco. Now we're at 5.6% and heading almost straight up. Thanks, Republicans!

It took about two minutes of research to find this data. But it's even easier to just make crap up and wrap it in a neat little tinfoil hat conspiracy package than to actually get your facts straight, right purple and kensmail? "

" purple-

you are wrong again (as usual). "oil speculation" as you are describing is a result of the CMFA which was passed by a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate. Just recently when legislation was proposed to prohibit speculation, who blocked it? You bet, Republicans! "

purple wrote on Aug 26, 2008 1:50 AM:

" "ematt"

Ever hear of "oil speculators"?

They are stock traders who, out of sheer greed, managed to manipulate the price of oil.

They had a lot of help in the form of "achmed-mini-nut-job" of Iran, and Hugo Chavez of Venezula.

Both of those leaders are out and out America haters and have made both overt and covert threats against Kuwait and Saudi Arabia [our two biggest oil suppliers]. "

" purple, kensmail -

just for the record, when G. W. Bush took office in January of 2001, the national average of a gallon of gas was $1.46 (I can back this up with facts if you wish). But I digress, the current price has nothing to do with inflation. It's nice that you both can afford $30 jeans. "

" "wonderbean"

"adequately funding education" even if the education system was given a blank check, it would never be enough to satisfy them. For 30 years now educators have been telling us 'give us more money', yet all those demands for more money have done NOTHING to improve the quality of education. It is tatmount to flushing more good money down the toilet after other good money.

"affordable health care" It all depends upon your definition of "affordable". No where in the democrat ranting in favor of socialized medical have they stated anything about having a major increase in the number of doctors, nurses, etc. When the limited doctors and nurses find themselves burned out because they are having to deal with far more medical cases than in the past many of them will opt for PRIVATE PRACTICE where they will be able to pick and choose how many patients they will have to deal with and leave the health system in worse shape than it is in now.

"sex education and contraception" have a place, but not in elementary school. "

" It always amazes me when we hear about the how Republicans despise abortion as murder. They also seem to despise adequately funding education, affordable health care, and food stamps. Once the child is born they are abandoned by the Republicans. The Republicans are as phony as a three dollar bill. Please take a look at all of the Republican platform and you will see they despise sex education and contraception as well. "

" Bruce, I am in the same place today you were many years ago. The Democratic party has changed so much to the left I don't recognize it. The liberal elitists have taken it over. The Obama followers are rabid ... I have been told if I can't support Obama for President I must have always been a Republican. I am not a "Republican" but an American who does not find a "community organizer" with a razor thin resume to be qualified for President of the United States. His sermons of hope and change do nothing for me ... where are the specifics? George Bush was a change candidate and his resume was as thin as Obama's. Some day we will find out who Obama is the manchurian candidate for, but in this election I am going to cross over to the dark side and vote for someone who can answer a question strait forwardly (if I agree or not). As Obama said at the faith forum - it's above his pay grade. Oh, he was right on the mark with that answer. "

Democrats dumb? What should we call those who would make such wide ranging stereotypic generalizations about millions of people? How about those who unquestioningly repeat ludicrous-on-(their)-face claims of their party? If the best you can do is repeat the latest sound bite of Obama or McCainit is you who are sad, brainwashed, uneducated...etc. I am pro choice and pro life (in other words I tick off both sides). I do not feel I can make a decision (at his point if ever) on a womans right to control her bodybut I hope you choose life or do everything possible to never have to make that choice. "

" "kensmail"

Ain't that the truth.

Notice the usual "you were brainwashed" comments by the usual suspects as if what they say is the "truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth".

Because the likes of Daily KOS, Media Matters, Moveon.org, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc., don't report on inflation during the clinton reign of terror IT NEVER HAPPENED. "

" Yeah, put your faith in Obama...things won't get any better, but at least we won't hear about it. Kind of like there was no mention of inflation during the Clinton years..but still saw a 20 dollar pair of jeans turn into a 30 dollar pair... "

" Bruce--

Maybe what happened is you didn't recognize the Republicans' lies for what they were. For instance, you unquestioningly repeat the ludicrous-on-its-face claim that Obama voted three times to let doctors murder babies.

I've been reading about this lately.

It's categorically not true.

Once again, the Republicans have twisted the facts so far out of whack that their version bears little resemblance to reality.

You might want to do a little research on this, from unbiased sources (meaning, tune out Rush, pay no attention to Fox "News," click away from WorldNetDaily).

Republicans have succeeded in convinging an alarming number of their constituents that Democrats are evil, communistic, baby-murdering wackos. The reason, I suspect, is that Republicans can't win debates on the merits of their own ideas, so they demonize their opposition.

Turn off the AM radio and try some truth for a change. Hell, you might even switch back to the Democratic party once you learn to ignore the character assassination from the far-right demagogues. "

" Mr. Supalla...as wonderbean said you should vote however you feel is best for you, but I am just guessing that letters like this that people write is a scare tactic with words like "murder infants." I have said it before and will say it again I think most people are PRO LIFE. Nobody is excited about abortion but it is a legal, very difficult, sad, life changing choice a woman is allowed to make. I do not think it is fare for you to put words in Barack Obamas mouth by saying that " Barack Obama feels better about his three votes to allow doctors to murder infants who are born alive during an abortion." That is your opinion sir not that of Barack Obama. This should not be a political issue at all...this is a womans choice and should not be influencing people on who to vote into the white house. "

wonkerbean wrote on Aug 22, 2008 7:06 AM:

" I think you should go back and read the campaign literature again. Allowing the government to make those decisions isn't right either. The ultmate decision resides with the woman and its not a political decision. Murder is a pretty common platform plank in the other party as well. If the war was over maybe you could stop and think and get started again? Al V. "

" Your vote is your vote and you should cast it however you best see fit. But I'll vote on more than just one issue...

and the overriding question for me is whether I feel that country is in better shape now than 8 years ago overall and in every aspect, and the answer is a resounding no! And 4 or 8 more years of McBush will mean much more of the same in my opinion. He has no sense of what normal families deal with daily and like Bush, & his policies are written for the rich (anyone over 5 mill he says). The Republican leadership is creating a caste system in this country. "
