The value of an outfit

By Kay Flinn Taylor, 508 Holter St. - 09/19/2008

I cannot understand the value system behind Cindy McCain’s choice of a $313,000 outfit at the Republican National Convention.

At first reading I was sure it was an error, even for someone with seven or more houses. Imagine a first lady with choices comparable to those of Marie Antoinette!

One dollar purchases eight meals through Food Share; one McCain dress could have provided 2,540,000 meals for the many in this country who are hungry.

" To be fair to Ms Taylor, she most likely got her stilted information from those paragons of accurate reporting - The Daily Kos, The Huffington Post, Moveon.org, Media Matters - and of course the mainstream [aka liberal] media entities ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, New York Times, LA Times, etc. "

" Frederick Douglass - July 4, 1852

Oh! had I the ability, and could I reach the nations ear, I would today pour out a fiery stream of biting ridicule, blasting reproach, withering sarcasm, and stern rebuke. For it is not light that is needed, but fire; it is not the gentle shower, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake. The feeling of the nation must be quickened; the conscience of the nation must be roused; the propriety of the nation must be startled; the hypocrisy of the nation must be exposed; and its crimes against God and man must be proclaimed and denounced . . . .

May I suggest all of you google and find out where Cindy's money comes from. Her company was sold to a foreign country; as all of America is being sold out.

HooRay for you Kay for telling it like it is. America Wake Up. "

" Considering that we tax payers just chocked up one TRILLION dollars in bail outs for the wall street mess, and that the uptick guard was de-regulated by a bill (10a) that mccain championed for approval and was signed into effect, which would of prevented most of these problems,, they would been caught. I think we have more critical issues then her dress. We still dont seem to learn.

" Let's focus on the big issues at hand facing our country, the differences between the candidates and how they say they are going to solve those problems. This is a non-issue. The woman can wear anything she wants, in my opinion. She was campaigning for her husband - so you can discuss her words and the campaign's itself - but nitpicking clothing seems wrong. "

" I don't care how she spends her money...certainly doesn't tell us what kind of president her husband will be.
Plus your facts are incorrect. The amount is a guess....still who cares... "

" Kay come on are you serious. I guarantee Cindy pays more in taxes than you do which goes to help alot more needy programs than just Food Share. Why is it that when someone has more than someone else they are demonized. This is America where you can be as much or as little as you want to be. I totally agree with Patriot, if you are not happy with your lot in life change it; but don't try to demonize the people with money use them as a model to increase yours. If it is from an inheritance kudos to the parents as I would love to be able to pass that on to my future generations without them feeling the need to apologize for it. "

" I found it laughable yesterday when Sen Biden told the rich that it was patriotic for them to pay higher taxes. Since when did how much a person make indicate their level of patriotism? If that is the case then, I guess those whom are not rich aren't as patriotic as the rich. The richer you are the more patriotic you are!

Sigh............what happened to the old saying, If you are against the Iraq war...you most certainly aren't patriotic? Good old GOP mantra.
Poor rich........stuck their hands out faster than a speeding "silver" bullet for their corporate welfare these past few days. As the late Gov. Ann Richards stated.."poor George.. he can't help it if he was born with a silver foot in his mouth". Poor rich people are getting picked on now? Maybe they can finally understand how the average American feels. "

Get real patriot. Cindy McCain inheireted her money! What were her career choices that made her so rich?

I could care less what she wears.

By the way. Those famous eyeglasses Palin wears are from Japan. Now that shows good ol American support!! Maybe the eyeglasses help her foriegn policy. Helps her see Russia better.....lol. "

Give me a break. Certainly you have better things to do with your time..maybe you could have used the valuable minutes you wasted to write your pointless letter to volunteer or hug a homeless child. "

I DRESS MY 5 YEAR OLDS IN NAME BRAND CLOTHING EVERYDAY (APROX $70.00 OR MORE EACH OUTFIT!)AND I HAVE TWINS!! SO DON'T BE BAD MOUTHING PEOPLE. I WOULD RATHER HAVE HER IN NICE CLOTHES INSTEAD OF LOOKING LIKE A DISCUSTING PIG!! PUT THAT IN YOUR BOOK! "

" Kay,
Your letter is short, and makes no point. The reported cost of the Cindy McCain's outfit are grossly inaccurate and not based on fact.

If one dollar provides eight meals then we should all shop there. Realistically no one in our country should go hungry, check out the help wanted section of the IR daily, there are plenty of jobs available for those who want to work to put food on the table. Our country, the USA, is the largest contributor to the UN. We as Americans do provide our fair share to help the worlds needy, where it may be difficult to grow crops and feed the hungry.
Most Americans are not bitter that Cindy McCain wears stylish clothes, only those who wish they had made better choices with their lives and sought careers allowing a better standard of living. You sound very unhappy with your station in life, it's never too late to change direction. Head down to Target and buy a new outfit or donate those monies to the food share program. Your choice. "

" Things you do not know about Cindy McCain. Cindy McCain is an active philanthropist. She is involved in many charities, including Operation Smile and American Voluntary Medical Team, (AVMT) which she founded. The McCains adopted their youngest child, Bridget, in 1991 from an orphanage in Bangladesh. She in on the board of directors for CARE, the HALO TRUST In 1993, Cindy McCain and the AVMT were honored with an award from Food for the Hungry. She continues to be an active philanthropist and serves on the boards of several charitable organizations.

46...46 more days of attack dog political mud slinging. Thank You Jesus. "

" Who's money is it that she is spending for her clothing? HERS, perhaps.

You do know that Cindy McCain, on her own accord is worth approximately $ 100 Million.

This sounds like just another example of liberals trying to tell other people how to spend THEIR OWN money.

A question for you. Do you whine and snivel about how much hollywood liberals spend for the formal gowns they wear at Hollywood premiers and when attending award presentations? If you say yes, then I challenge you to write a letter to the editor taking them to task after the next Oscars are presented.

I found it laughable yesterday when Sen Biden told the rich that it was patriotic for them to pay higher taxes. Since when did how much a person make indicate their level of patriotism?
