Update: Woman dies in rollover

By ANGELA BRANDT Independent Record

A 41-year-old Helena woman died in a one-vehicle rollover accident up Magpie Gulch in Broadwater County late Tuesday night during a bow-hunting trip.

Bonnie Sue Heller and her husband, Mike, were driving east in a full-size pickup roughly 11 miles up the gulch when the truck veered off the roadway and rolled down a nearly 1,000-foot embankment, according to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Marvin Reddick.

Bonnie Heller died at the scene, Broadwater County Sheriff Brenda Ludwig said.

Neither were wearing seat belts and airbags were not deployed, Reddick said.

Mike Heller climbed up the embankment and walked down the narrow road until he could find cell phone coverage and text messaged family for help at about 10 p.m., Reddick said.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation.

Mike Heller was taken by private vehicle to the hospital for evaluation and was later released, Reddick said.
