Obama signs stolen

By Todd Harwell and Elena Flanagan, 909 East Broadway - 10/17/2008

Our Obama yard signs were stolen between Friday and Saturday Oct. 10 and 11, which is deplorable.

As Americans we are truly fortunate to have freedom of speech and the freedom to support and promote the candidate of our choosing. If others have had your Obama yard sign taken or would like to get one — the Obama headquarters on the walking mall has them.

" ematt- how many "right-wingers" do you know that voted for Gov Schweitzer? I do agree with your private property comment and again, if that makes me a "right-winger", well so be it.

All I am saying is thay both of these candidates could have denounced these things and neither did. In my view, neither one is better than the other on this. If I were a hard core supporter of either one, I suppose I could justify my candidates side, but I am not and I can't. "

" mark 1228-

You are just not getting it. You are comparing what was said at a McCain event to what is happening on a persons private property? Your link isn't helping your position, that incident happened at a public University (and I do not approve of it). I always thought you "right-winger" types didn't want people telling you what you can and can't do on your private property? "

" diazo- What do you suppose the response to this "halloween display" would have been if it were Sen. Obama in the noose? Well if you look at the following link you will see that people get arrested. Does not seem fair to me. Why all the hate for these people on either side?

http://www.wsaz.com/home/headlines/33601729.html

Sen. Obama could have condemned the display if he wanted to. He chose not to just as Sen. McCain did not to condemn hate speech at the tape of the rally I saw. As I said, in my opinion I think they both blew it. "

diazo wrote on Oct 31, 2008 10:51 AM:

" mark1228, I looked up the Palin depiction because I hadn't heard about it prior to your mentioning it, and it's part of a Halloween display at somebody's house. It's certainly offensive, but I don't see how you can draw equivalence between McCain's failure to rebut people shouting things like "kill him" at a McCain rally while McCain himself paints Obama as a friend of terrorists, versus someone having an offensive display in their yard. I have no doubt that if someone asked Obama about this display he would condemn it, and that if someone were ever to shout "kill her" about Palin at an Obama rally he would shut that person down.

Obama is hardly in a position to police all the Halloween displays in the nation. What is more important, he is not setting a tone in which people are encouraged to express such violent emotions at his rallies. That is the path McCain and Palin have chosen, and you can buy into it or not. I choose not to. "

" diazo- I appreciate civilized, intelligent dialogue- thank you.

I have seen the video clips you are talking about and I agree that those comments are ignorant and wrong. I agree that Sen. McCain and Gov Pallin should have said something. I also believe that Senator's Obama and Biden should condemn the hanging of Gov. Pallin and I have not seen that either so I don't believe Obama/Biden are any better than McCain/Pallin on this one.

No doubt I lean right in my political views, but you may be surprised to know that while I did vote for Sen McCain(not because I am big fan, just because I think he is the best choice available) I also voted for Gov. Schweitzer for the same reason. "

diazo wrote on Oct 30, 2008 12:45 PM:

" mark1228, I appreciate that you condemn any depiction of a candidate being hung. We are at least on the same page with this. It certainly never would have occurred to me to Google this with respect to Obama if you hadn't expressed doubt that anyone had ever depicted Obama this way. There has been plenty in the news about the racism and hate the McCain and Palin have been whipping up in their desperation to shore up their flagging campaign, so I couldn't imagine why you couldn't imagine such a thing.

Have you not seen the video clips of McCain and Obama rallies where the candidates call Obama a socialist and claim he "pals around with terrorists"? Have you not heard people in the crowd shouting "terrorist", "kill him", and "off with his head" when Obama's name is mentioned? McCain and Palin have yet to reprimand anyone for shouting these vulgarities.

I think anyone who is familiar with your many comments on this board would agree you are on the right side of the political spectrum. I am sorry for using the term "right-winger" if you find that offensive. You can call me a left-winger if you'd like; some on this board have called us liberals far worse. "

mark1228 wrote on Oct 29, 2008 4:09 PM:

" Well diazo, I don't know where you got "right winger" out of my comments.

First of all, I would never think to google "Obama" and "noose" until you mentioned it. Why would you? I condemn ALL the hate that is involved in politics today at every level, including this very website. Why can't people disagree and not hate each other? If ANYONE were suggesting that Obama or any other candidate or person for that matter should be hung, of course I condemn that. I also condemn ALL white supremacists.

I believe that if you are running for President from either party, regardless of race or sex, your past associations, friends, financial contributions and financial contributors are all fair game. I did not hear Sen. McCain or Gov. Pallin say Sen. Obama is a terrorist or a communist. I do feel that his plans and record show a very socialist tilt.

As for your "right winger" comment, I am fed up with BOTH party's and believe it is time for a new party that is for the people and has a focus on REDUCED SPENDING and LOWER TAX'S. I guess if that makes me a right winger, so be it! "

diazo wrote on Oct 29, 2008 3:05 PM:

" naturalblonde196, I'm not sure what you assume I am assuming. My point in bringing up the threatening note was that what has been happening to the Obama signs is not random. The note was directly addressed to "Obama Lovers" and seemed to have been written with the assumption that anyone who has an Obama sign in their yard must be an illegal immigrant. Hence it was written in Spanish - sort of - and seemed to be suggesting I expect something for nothing in the United States. I will type the entire text of the letter here verbatim if you'd like, otherwise I won't waste people's time.

I have small chidren and having someone come onto my porch and stick a nasty note in my mailbox is disturbing. All for the crime of having an Obama sign in my yard. You can assume what you want. "

diazo wrote on Oct 29, 2008 2:04 PM:

" mark1228: I absolutely condemn any depiction of any of the candidates being hung; I doubt you will find many Democrats who wouldn't.

I don't have to imagine if anyone did that to Barack Obama. If you Google "Obama" and "noose" you will find that plenty of you right wingers are advocating lynching. Do you condemn that? Do you condemn the two white supremacists who were arrested for plotting to assassinate Barack Obama?

Do you condemn your candidates, McCain and Palin, for creating an environment which fosters this ugliness, by repeatedly using incendiary labels like "terrorist", "socialist" and "communist" to whip up the hate and fear in their gullible supporters? "

naturalblonde196 wrote on Oct 29, 2008 11:35 AM:

" Well, diazo again someone that takes just a letter and runs with it in the wrong direction. Actually I am a big Obama fan. And I don't remember anyone saying anything about a badly garbled letter at all. If youare going to attack people then at least give everyone else all the info. I was just trying to say that no one saw anything or else the police would have been notified and we shouldn't assume since we all know what ASSUME does. Well after reading your very assuming letter we should definitely leave that one to you. "

But if stealing an Obama sign is "deplorable", I wonder if any democrat on this site is willing to speak out against the Hollywood display of Sarah Pallin hung on a noose? Can you imagine if anyone did that to Barack Obama? I believe that is wrong either way, how about you? "

diazo wrote on Oct 29, 2008 9:08 AM:

" Gee, naturalblonde196, the wind and/or the deer are certainly talented, going down my street and selectively taking out the Obama signs and leaving others alone. And then those darn deer got on a word processor and an internet langage translator and created the threatening note in badly garbled Spanish that I found stuffed in my mailbox last week. (Addressed to "Obama Amantes" (Obama Lovers) and filled with unkind suggestions and insults.)

If it was teenagers, I would suggest it was the teenagers of people like naturalblonde196 and obsethed who apparently subsribe to the philosophy that anything goes as long it's directed at people you disagree with politically. And this from the party that makes private property rights a religion. Do I take it then I have your permission to take out the two McCain signs in my neighborhood, which have stood untouched despite the attacks on numerous Obama signs... perhaps because Democrats subscribe to a higher standard of personal responsibility and respect for others' property? "

naturalblonde196 wrote on Oct 28, 2008 1:40 PM:

" Why does it always seem to come to one against the other. People are assuming that the other political party did it and maybe the wind just took it away or deer trampled it or... or.... or.... It could have been any number of things. Let's just stop with the looking for things to get angry about. It was a sign and no one actually saw anything or anyone otherwise the police would have been notified. Everyone just chill. "

" mykids is exactly correct. Why is it that Republicans are automatically to blame. I guess it is in the make-up of a democrat. Democrats are constantly looking for someone else to blame for whatever is happening today. It is the Republican's fault we are in Iraq and the economy is in the gutter to name a few. Yet, the democrats hold a majority vote in the senate. They have the authority to over rule anything that goes through if they stick to their partly lines. We live in a democracy people. Democrats are equally to blame for any situation that comes up in society. All that I hear is that this republican or that republican did this or that. Well, then don't vote with them if they are crooked. Everyone is in attack mode and it is getting old. Quite blaming everyone else for what is happening. Quit blaming Bush for everything in society. Democrats and Republicans are to blame EQUALLY! Your state reps and senators had the opportunity to shoot down every idea that Bush came up with. They allowed all this to happen, so let's shift a little blame off of Bush and onto them. Baucus is up for re-election. Look at his voting history and look to see if that agrees with the direction you want the country headed. Don't look to see if there is "D" or and "R" next to their name. Please, to those Democrats that feel always victimized, stop pointing the finger across the isle because when you point your finger at someone else in blame there are three pointing right back at you! It could have been a group of teens that realize that Obama really isn't for America (after all, Obama is targeting the young). Maybe we should just automatically assume that this is exactly what happened and that their parents should be shamed in the middle of town for not teaching their children proper voting year tactics.
My point? If you didn't SEE anyone with a bright red McCain/Palin shirt in your front yard....don't assume it was a Republican. "

Officials Say FBI Probing ACORN for Voter Fraud

Supreme Court Rules With Ohio Secretary of State on Voter Fraud Rules
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/17/ohio-secretary-state-files-extension-compliance-circuit-court-voter-fraud/

I read more than just the daily democrat talking points.

The FBI investigation of Acorn in 13 states is ongoing, not discredited.
voter fraud is a crime ACORN has long been associated with, and helped with obams $800,000 donation from his campaign.

The Ohio Secretary of state has been cited by 2 lower courts for not allowing local precincts to affirm voter eligability. the supreme court just said that the Republican party can't bring suit against her, but that does not excuse the fact she is trying to make sure questionable registrations are allowed to vote.

Fraud on this scale is not a "misdemenor" it is a federal offense in a general election.

Chicago democrat style electioneering at it's finest. "

A lot of people have posted this - but just to be sure: ACORN is about Voter REGISTRATION fraud - not voter fraud - people paid to gather registrations only who fake signatures and sign as Mickey Mouse to make money. These people can rarely vote in that manner. Its a crime (misdemeanor) and should be investigated and prosecuted if found to be true. But none of these low-lifes will bump or reduce the totals for either side. The ACORN people claim that they even self-reported these violations by their canvassers. "

Nice try, mtsilvertip, but Republicans wrote the book on election fraud. The ACORN thing has been debunked extensively on other threads. We are talking here about the behavior of the GOP in Montana, which has been reprehensible recently. I'm not suggesting this vandalizing and theft of yard signs is actually being organized by the GOP, but I think it reflects the increasingly bitter and desperate attitude of Republicans who know that their corrupt policies and tactics are all catching up with them this year. Democrats don't need to steal elections because we are the majority! "

Or perhaps by saying someone is taking yard signs it will somehow mitigate the fact that 13 states are conducting investigations of obamas group Acorn for voter fraud.

I just wonder.... "
