Insulting McCain calls

By T.R. Blank and family - 10/29/08

Our family home in Helena has been the target of daily negative recorded calls from the McCain Campaign and Republican National Committee. After the second day we called to ask: please take our home number off your lists. They ignored our request and continue to invade our family’s privacy — now with multiple recorded calls per day.

Every auto-recorded call is a distorted fear-based message attacking Senator Obama. None offered any hope or solutions to serious problems our country now faces.

Eight years of failed leadership has brought our country to the brink of disaster.

We don’t find these calls persuasive, we find them insulting and degrading.

Your harassing calls and tin ear remind us every day why we are voting for real change, for Obama and Biden.

" I work nights. Throughout election day we were bombarded by democrats knocking on our door and calling us. I managed to get a whopping 3 hours of sleep.

Even after being told during the first knock and phone call that we already voted and voted for the other guy, they were too damned stupid to get the message and the knocking and phone calls continued. "

" There is a simple solution to avoid the dreaded robo call. First you have to know how to work your phone, answering machine and a tape recorder. If not stop reading and continue to complain.

Call a number that you know is disconnected. Record the three tone intro before the voice. This is the disconnect tone from the phone company. (Standard everywhere) Transfer this to your answering machine at the beginning of your greeting. The robo call recognizes this as a waste of its time and will erase your number from their database after a couple calls. I have done this and it works. "

" What about the seemingly endless calls by obama's campaign offices?

We've received numerous calls and have REPEATEDLY told the caller than there is no way in hell we would vote for him.

Evidently, the obama campaigners are too damn STUPID to get it through their thick skulls to remove our phone number from their calling list. I guess their lack of intelligence when it comes to removing people who do not wish to be called comes from the failing education system in this country [aka DUMBING DOWN]. "

ok, maybe 2nd grad???also, it's not what obama has done, it's what he can do. But anyone who is going around touting that "win this war" is JUST WRONG. YOU do NOT WIN THIS war! It is an immature thought/statement and has "old school", male hormones written all over it. Even the most recently placed general in the war said the same, we are there to do a job and get out,,, there is no win or lose- my god! IT has to stop. At a cost of 12 billion/month and untold cost on post war cleanup, this country needs to take care of the people/economy,,, and then maybe, we can all get caller ID? next time, post something with substance and maybe, you will get to 6th grade. " justagirl - Just so you know, Senator Obama has had past involvement with the Annenberg Challenge, not the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania that developed factcheck.org. Yes, the two are under the umbrella of the Annenberg Foundation. Here's a link describing both programs, among others established by the Annenberg Foundation.

And just in case you've assumed that the founder of the Annenberg Foundation is liberal, you'll be pleased to find out that he was the Ambassador to the Court of St. James from 1969-1974 - so in layman's terms, he was Nixon's Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

" Speaking for myself only, what I find most irritating about these calls is that they are robo-calls. The organization that's making them can harrass you all they want at virtually no cost or effort on their part. My feeling is, if your campaign can't get a warm body to dial the phone, you shouldn't be calling. Besides, it's the law: robocalls are illegal in Montana. And both parties are guilty of violating that law. "

" rinnie - get a clue girl(?) In the original post that we all are supposed to be commenting on by T.R. Blank and family we are supposed to "lament" over their frustration with harrassing "RECORDED PHONE CALLS". Excuse me...it's a RECORDING. Hang up. You're not going to hurt the recordings "feelings". Back to what elizabethm said inre "calling them and asking to be removed"...I agree they SHOULD remove you from their list and quit calling you. But some people aren't nice, some people aren't smart. I grew up in a world where "green" was always green. It wasn't blue or red. Facts are facts and some people are stupid, ignorant, lazy and whatever other bad things they may be. Some people are on the other end of the spectrum and actually deserve to be honored and looked up to. I don't know to many politicians that fit that bill. One "problem with Obama" is that as soon as he was elected "Senator" he started to run for President. What has he done as a Senator? Not a heck of a lot. Oh he has accused McCain of doing "exactly what he is also guilty of"...voting the party line. McCains' record of slightly over 90% with Bush and Obamas' record of almost 97% with Democrats. So who is worse in "partisan politics"? Now go ahead and slam McCain he deserves it too. The problem with the two party system is that people think there are "only" two ways in life. Conservative, liberal, right, left, republican, democrat. It's all TWO PARTIES and they control the game. Once in office they are more like a "band of brothers" and continue to play their game to their advantage. Not yours or mine. That's the problem with our system. Now fix it. "

" I don't trust factcheck.org due to Obama's association with the Anneberg Foundation. But like most things there are 2 sides to every story.

I also have received many calls from Obama campaigners. I politely tell them that I am voting for McCain and ask them to take me off their list. It is not the caller's fault they are just doing their job (paid or volunteer). I see no need to be rude to them even though I don't agree with their beliefs. "

" elizabethm - now that you have "restated" your position from the earlier post, I do agree with you that they should stop calling when asked. That's why we have the "do not call registry" (that doesn't work either). So facts being facts and people being who they are "we" have to deal with annoying people the best we can. Anyone who calls me that I don't know (caller ID) may well get not answered or answer and hang up without even saying "hello". Skooter - the world doesn't care much about care and understanding these days. My responses are targeted to those who seem to be complaining about "nothing". We can't fix all the little problems in the world. Let's try and fix a few big ones before they get completely out of hand. The next two years in this country are going to be pure chaos. I hope "we all"
make it through what is coming. "

Your right "they" have a right to use their phone too. I never said that didn't, but if they are asked to stop calling someone then they should respect their wishes.

So, lets just say that some snot nosed kid kept calling YOUR house and making prank phone calls. YOU wouldnt get upset? YOU wouldnt asked them to stop calling YOU? And when they didn't YOU wouldnt express YOUR frustration? I didnt think so!!!

You must be one of those perfect ones that just lets everything roll off your back with a smile on your face and says those darn kids. LOL

This has nothing to do with me voting Democrat or Republican. It is about respect! When someoneone asks you to stop doing something because it is bothering them, then you should RESPECT their wishes!! "

Take on your own problems and quit thinking that someone else should fix them for you. Quit whining like a spoiled child who isn't getting their way. "

HakonMontag wrote on Oct 30, 2008 7:54 AM:

" elizabethm - It's "your phone" to be sure. We all get annoying phone calls from "recorded" messages to "telemarketers" to (now) "pollsters". If you don't want to "talk to them"...don't. If you do talk to them and let them get you upset, well who you gonna blame? You're the one who decided to talk to them, or listen to their message. Seems that the Democrats don't understand their own philosophy of diversity. No one is "forcing" you to listen to their garbage. You have the power to make it stop. Hang up the phone. As for the "it's your phone and you pay the bill" crap...they pay their phone bill too. They have a right to use their phone too. This is the "price" we pay to have a connected society. Not much tolerance coming from those who "preach it". "

While I'm a registered Republican, I am continually bombarded at election time by the Democrats telling me "we have to defeat these radical right wing conservatives"... which always makes me chuckle, since I *am* one! I've even had them pounding on my door election night until well past dark -- last time I found I had to holler at them to get off my private property! I expect some of this from the party with which I'm registered, but from the opposition?? It baffles me.

Both parties are guilty of this harassment, and like most of you here, I for one am tired of having my telephone hijacked by them ALL! "

If there's nothing wrong with it, why doesn't he release it and kill the controversy? Same with his college papers. Why don't the newspapers print them so we can see how smart he is? What is it that he has to hide from us? And what was in Biden's physical that he wouldn't release the whole thing? And if he's in on this "spread the wealth" thing, why does he give so little to charity? Is it only OPM (Other People's Money) that he is willing to part with? And I haven't heard what Obama gives to charity--anybody help me out with that fact? "

" In my opinion, the only way we can get the country back on track is if we vote for the right candidates in Congress and the Senate. Lets face it people, therein lies the control, how can any one person change anything in 4 years? It takes some time to "figure out" the office and roles of the President. Observing what a President does then actually being in the position are 2 entirely different avenues. Then, as representative of our country, our President will be expected to travel in many places in the world helping resolve world level issues as a world leader. Finally, this one person is up against over 500 politicians many of which have been in office between 20-40 years! If that isn't enough, when the President introduces something and the other politicians don't go for it, its a dead issue. Conversly, if the other politicians introduce something that the President doesn't like, they can still approve it. Since the President is not a dictator, he/she has little power to "change" anything.

I encourage everyone to vote for whoever they think is most qualified to be President, but lets not kid ourselves. If any of us is voting because we believe this one person is going to change or fix what Congress and the Senate has essentially "messed up" over decades....thats not realistic. "

I simply don't answer the call or answer and hangup without listening to the recording. Try it. As for your choice, you've made it. Live with it. "

Just another round-about from the Republican party. We do not need an administration that stoops this low to get votes. We need an administration that can rise above this sort of garbage and if you are in tune with this sort of value system, then vote for the Repbulican that higher people to do this sort of thing.
