Peter F. Mohan

God has requested the presence of Col. Peter F. Mohan, retired, 63, of Helena, an old soldier, to return home on Nov. 3, 2008.

Peter was born on Jan. 31, 1945, to Peter P. and Cornia R. Canonica Mohan, who both preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death and waiting with open arms are his grandparents, aunts, uncles and a brother-in-law.

Pete has passed on to another life, leaving behind a long list of accomplishments. He loved life, but stated that his two sons, Pete “Philip” and Christopher Mohan were his greatest joy and achievements and was very proud of the men they became. He has always thanked his ex-wife, Elaine, for the gift of his sons. He also leaves behind his sister, Margaret “Peg” Abernathy and family of Issaquah, Wash., brother and sister-in-law, Patrick J. (Judy) Mohan of Butte; and relatives and friends too many to mention, but who are not forgotten.

Pete was an incredibly generous person, and he brought enthusiasm and professionalism to all his responsibilities. Pete’s last request would be to give your time and energy to God, country and charity of choice.

Let us not forget to visit our local drinking establishments and raise a toast to Pete and all the joy he brought to our lives.

A memorial service celebrating Pete’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church. Services are under the direction of Retz Funeral Home. To offer condolences or to share a memory of Pete, please visit www.mem.com.

" Pete has touched all lives that he came in contact with, young and old. He was a very important part of our family and has left a very large whole to fill.

To his sons and family, you were very lucky and should be very proud for having such a wonderful man in your life. Keep Pete's memories close, they will bring you confort. We will keep Pete's memories close as well, keep him in our prayers until we meet again. "

" I will always remember the first time I met Pete, a young officer who trained me on infantry -- toughest training of my life.

Later in our lives, we would go to lunch to shoot the **** about the good ol' days.

We have lost a great soldier and friend. "

" Colonel Mohan was such a joy to work with and for!!! I was deeply saddened by the news of his passing. He will be remembered for his professionalism and "can-do" approach to every problem, while never forgetting the needs of the solider as his primary mission. Sir, I salute your passing and raise a glass to your memory! "

" "uncle Pete" as I fondly called him, will be missed. I would see him every morning when I walked out of the parking garage on my way to work. I could count on him being there taking his 'smoke' break while working for the state. He used to tease me and say "so you finally decided to come to work today huh smiley?" I miss him already :O( "

" I served with Pete in the 19th SFG @ Ft. Missoula in the mid-1970's. He was a good friend and a fine officer. We had also bumped into each other a few times since and I always tried to keep tabs on him through mutual friends. I will miss his character. "
