Townsend cruised to two straight wins in the first round at the state tournament in Bozeman.
The Bulldogs defeated Choteau in the first round 25-21, 25-14, 25-22.
Townsend outblocked Choteau at the net 9-4 with the help of Jessica Sagissor and Siobhan Flynn, who each had three blocks.
The win advanced Townsend to the second round against Manhattan Christian, where the Bulldogs topped their division rivals 16-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-19.
“We came out flat in the first set,” Townsend head coach Jill Flynn said. “But then we adjusted well and played our game.” After dropping a quick first set, Townsend came out strong in the second and third sets, winning easily in both.
“Our seniors did a great job,” Flynn said. “They came out and led us to victory.”
Townsend outspiked Manhattan Christian 45-34. Junior Delaware Hansen made her presence felt on the floor, as she had a team high 14 kills for the Bulldogs.
“Delaware has been tentative lately, but she came out swinging tonight,” Flynn said.
Manhattan Christian succumbed to the Bulldogs onslaught to lose the fourth set and the match.
The win advances Townsend to the third round against Huntley Project tonight at 6 p.m. If The Bulldogs win that match they will play for the state title Saturday afternoon.
