Saints basketball set for weekend action

The Saints men (4-0) are hoping to continue their successes after beating MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) and Embry Riddle (Fla.) last weekend.
“We’re playing well right now, we really are,” said Saints head coach Gary Turcott. “We had a good weekend and a good week of practice.”
Now their about to face off with a couple of tough teams that will be hard to beat.
They’ll face off with the Blue Angels on Friday at 8 p.m. The All-Star team is made up of former basketball players from the Washington and Montana areas.
Turcott’s own son, Ryan Turcott, is among the teammembers that include University of Montana and Montana State alum. “He’ll be out to stick it to his dad,” Gary Turcott said.
Saturday’s game against Dixie State, meanwhile, will likely be the bigger test for Carroll.
Other than the NCAA Div. I teams that Carroll has played this year, Dixie, a Div. II team, will likely be the toughest.
“The Saturday night game will tell us where we are,” Turcott said.
That game is also scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. after the University of Montana Western and the Blue Angels face off.
The Carroll women look to end their three-game losing streak this weekend in Billings.
The Saints (4-3) are coming off an emotional home stand last weekend where they lost by three points to No. 6 Azusa Pacific and dropped a defensive decision to Westmont, a team they had beaten in last year’s national tournament.
“There are some pluses that we are taking out of last weekend’s losses,” Saints head coach Shawn Nelson said. “We played APU close. We played 40 minutes of defense on Saturday, and we now know where our weaknesses are at on offense.”
Carroll has been focusing on those offensive weaknesses in practice this week.
The Saints will need to be better as they stride into a a three-game road trip in which their opponents are a combined 14-6 on the year.
Carroll will play No. 18 Black Hills State tonight at 6 p.m., South Dakota Tech, a team that is receiving top-25 votes, on Saturday at 6 p.m., and No. 13 Minot State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
