Upset with Gov

By Jared Slanger - 11/25/08

I am writing in regard to Governor Schweitzer.

Long ago I became exhausted by his overly affected hokeyness. Particularly his insistence on dragging his poorly managed mutt to every event as if this mongrel is proof that he is from “down home.” Now, I don’t mean to malign Jag. He seems like a nice, if ill mannered, pooch. I am just asking Governor Schweitzer to put a leash on him. Maybe someone should do the same to Brian. Or rein him in.

In a fit of Jacksonistic cronyism, Governor Schweitzer replaced Jeff Hagener. I have friends who have worked with and for Mr. Hagener and they indicated that he has been fantastic as the director of the fish, wildlife and parks department. I guess Brian doesn’t care that the job is done well as long as he can have his BFF’s around. That goes for his dog and Mr. Maurier.

I know the spoils go to the victor but in this case the victor acts like spoiled brat.

As a pro-gun, pro-sportsman’s rights Democrat I voted for Governor Schweitzer twice. I won’t make the same mistake with his alleged senatorial run.

" Well Jared, the gov has every right to appoint whom ever he wants to that position, so you might expect him to select someone he knows and thus Joe Maurier is the choice, but I think what you might find ugly was the way in which our Governor made the transition, actually there wasn't a transition, he simply told Mr. Hagener that he was done immediately and he needed to leave immediately. So within a couple hours, Mr. Hagener was more or less packed up and out the door. It was the cloest thing that our present Governor could get to a firing without actually firing Hagener. Doing this to man that has served this position with integrity for 8 years is an insult not just to Hagener and the people of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, but to the people of Montana. I am not sure there was a more popular and successful Director of FWP then Hagener. He is a native Montanian and he actually is an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. Good luck to Mr. Maurier, he has some big shoes to fill. "

" I have yet to hear a bad comment about Joan Miles - the other director that was "replaced" without notice either. "

" Jared,
Interesting observation you made. Brian Schweitzer was probably like the little kid who had to tie a "pork chop" around his neck to get his dog to play with him. Maybe he keeps that bolo tie soaked in bacon grease. "
