State Briefs: Manhattan Christian to remain in Class B

Manhattan Christian High School met the enrollment guidelines to change classifications, but petitioned the Board to remain in its current classification. Billings Central and Butte Central successfully petitioned to remain as Class A schools, and Valley Christian successfully petitioned to remain in Class B.
MSU signs Minnesota prep golfer
BOZEMAN (AP) — Montana State women’s golf coach Leslie Spalding has announced the signing of Kelly O’Brien of Maple Grove, Minn.
O’Brien is a two-time all-state golfer and member of the 2008 PGA Junior Cup Team.
O’Brien placed fifth in the 2008 Minnesota High School tournament and has numerous top five finishes in regional junior golf events. She has been named her team’s MVP three years in a row and has a 2.3 handicap. Spalding says O’Brien has improved her mental and technical game and will fit right in with the MSU golf team.
Big Sky honors Heringer, Anderson
HELENA (AP) — Montana State guard Jenny Heringer and Weber State forward Caitlin Anderson share the Big Sky Conference women’s basketball player of the week award.
It’s the third straight week the league has honored two players.
Heringer, a junior from Billings, scored 20 points in Montana State’s 90-82 win over Western Carolina. She made 5-of-9 shots from 3-point range.
Anderson, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds in three games last week, in which Weber State beat Westminster, lost to Youngstown State and beat Elon in double overtime. Anderson leads the conference, averaging 20.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
The men’s award went to Jabril Banks of Northern Colorado. The senior from Denver averaged 20.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in the Bears’ wins over Denver and Texas State.
