Don't cull - eliminate
By Allan Stricker, 2266 Goldrush Ave. - 01/04/09
As to FWP or city, whoever counted them — get a clue. The chance of only 700 is as likely as the sun rising in the west tomorrow. At any given time of the day or night I shouldn’t expect to see 1 percent of the total deer in Helena from our bedroom window. Having become very large rodents, not game animals, they all need to be eliminated. At least new wild deer would be scared again.

There is a wonderful quote..."The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated".
With all the killing lately, just because people don't want their flowrs eaten, it is no wonder people in our city think that killing cats just because they don't happen to like them and killing dogs out their vehicles windows when they haven't been lucky in the woods, is perfectly alright.
"Kill the deer before they kill us!!" Sheeesh! What a drama queen! "

You home is worth what, $ 300,000
Oh how I feel so sorry for you. Since you own a home in an area which used to be covered by trees, aren't you part of the problem?
Just how many more deer began appearing AFTER those luxury homes were built higher up the hill from you?
How many more deer began appearing after they cleared the land for SNOB HILL?
The city and county should put their foot down on further incursions into the forest lands surrounding this city. They cause the current problem with the deer.
Practically every morning, for the past 5 or 6 years, while delivering papers in the southhills area I encounter deer. I have yet to encounter an agressive one. They usually turn tail and move out of my path, including an 8-point buck I encounter a couple of days ago. I make every effort to avoid contact with them. "

I can see what you probably can't. When I lived here 26 years ago, there wasn't this problem in town. Having since returned the town is now in the mountains. That leads me to believe a couple things. 1, hunting restrictions have aided to the population problem and 2, expansion into the woods. Not only hunting restrictions but lets face it, even if there weren't restrictions chances are the land were I would want to go hunt the deer is now private land. Wasn't 30 years ago. To the bleeding heart folks that see a serious deer problem I have 2 questions. First, are you one of these well off folks that bought land in the mountains and 2, can I come hunt on your land? "
