This week's announcements of several service reductions for Horizon Airlines actually means an increase in service for Helena.

The local airport currently has two flights a day to Seattle -- one direct and one through Great Falls. As part of the service changes announced this week, Helena will get an additional flight to the Emerald City, direct each way.

The change comes as part of a scheduling change in Billings, which will no longer have a Horizon flight to Portland. Instead, Billings gets an additional trip to Seattle, with the plane stopping here on the way out and back.

In other airport news, the long-anticipated arrival of United Express service comes this week. The first flight from Denver is scheduled to arrive a little before 4 Thursday afternoon, with Helena's first Colorado-bound passengers departing about a half-hour later.

Airport officials have a celebration planned for the first day of the new service.

20-20: Opthamologist Craig Wilkerson and optometrist Chad Swanson of the Helena Eye Clinic recently opened a satellite office in Townsend. The Townsend Eye Clinic, on Broadway, offers complete eye care, including exams, glasses and contacts and testing for glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts and diabetes.

Fresh Brew: There's a new coffee shop on tap at the Great Northern Town Center. Partners Darla Stafford and Armando Oropeza are opening The Coffee Spot this month in the Expedition Block.

The dessert and espresso cafe with a Mediterranean atmosphere will feature fresh pastries, cheesecakes and other desserts, along with free wireless Internet. The shop will be open Monday through Saturday, and the owners envision hosting an assortment of community-style events.

The hand-roasted coffees will come from Fieldheads in Kalispell.

Prior to opening the shop here, Stafford owned the Stage Line Pizza franchise in Anaconda for five years.
