We're roaring into spring with March, the month that's said to be "In like a lion, out like a lamb," or the other way around.

It might be freezin' deezin,' but at least the flowers are beginning to bloom. Just FYI, March is the only month that it's OK to use the word "blustery."

Are you aware of your morning coffee? March is Caffeine Awareness Month, Foot Health Month, Noodle Month, Women's History Month and most importantly, National Celery Month.

We might want to add National Composer's Month to that list: March is the month that brought us Bach, Mussorgsky, Kurt Weill, Maurice Ravel, Samuel Barber and Bela Bartok.

On March 1, 1872, Yellowstone became the first national park designated by Congress. March 3, take your mummy to Bozeman's Museum of the Rockies to see the King Tut exhibition (see story on page 1A of today's paper).

Choose your doodle: March 5 is Cheese Doodle Day.

French gypsy string trio Samaralabouf will come to the Myrna Loy Center, March 6. On March 7, catch the first event of the Montana Historical Society's March Lecture Series, happening every Wednesday at noon.

March 7, the Holter Museum of Art will open the exhibition "Hausfrau: Recent Works by Chris Antemann." Fill your bowl for others on March 8 during the Friendship Center's annual Empty Bowls benefit.

On March 9, Cabin Fever Day, get out of the house and see "Love, Sex and the IRS," opening at Grandstreet Theatre; or attend the Jazz & Just Desserts event to benefit Montana Shares at the Myrna Loy Center.

Because they're so popular -- no pun intended -- March 10 is Blueberry Popover Day. Helena's Live! at the Civic presents the one man show Jack Benny, "Laughter in Bloom," March 12.

Significant because it's the only thing anyone remembers from the sixth grade: on March 14, 1794, inventor Eli Whitney patented the cotton gin.

We don't mind if you add an "e" and celebrate accordingly -- March 14 (aka 3-14) is National Pi Day.

On March 15, the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies auction fundraiser will be held at the Helena Civic Center.

Get lucky on March 17, St. Patrick's Day. If you're looking for a different way to observe the occasion, get tickets to the Wine Crush benefit for Big Brothers Big Sisters, also March 17.

Here comes the sun: March 21 marks the spring equinox. On March 22, the Montana Historical Society will open its newest exhibition, "Montana by Food."

Stomp up a storm on March 23 with Reggie Wilson Fist & Heel at the Myrna Loy Center.

March 23, 1775, is the day that American revolutionary Pat Henry said "Give me liberty or give me death!" Calm down, Pat -- have some chips and dip. March 23 is also Chips and Dip day.

We can't wait for the Helena Symphony's annual evening at the opera performance of "Carmen," March 24.

Wrap up the weekend of March 25 with a visit to the quilt show at the Helena Civic Center.

Which March 31 birthday boy said "If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things," Rene Descartes, Al Gore, or Christopher Walken?
