WESTPORT, Conn. -- Can you find a great outfit for spring for under $100?
Try three.
On a trip to a Goodwill store here with $100, I came away with three outfits, a pair of shoes and $12 in change.
One outfit, although a little wintery, represented spring's color-blocking trend. Another outfit hit both the safari trend and that natural-neutral look, while the last was a multipurpose black dress that still had its original $148 tag on it -- right next to the new one for $25.
The shoes varied in condition from worn to brand new and this particular Goodwill had some luxury labels, including Ferragamo and Cole Haan. Shoppers, however, should inspect things carefully -- there was a blue leather bag with an emblem on the front from Italian manufacturer Tod's, but an inside label said ''Made in China.''
There were more pairs of Abercrombie & Fitch jeans than I could count, as well as pairs with J. Crew, Tommy Hilfiger and Gap labels. A pair of premium 7 For All Mankind Jeans was there for $24, but I thought that might blow my budget.
The content of the shopping bags:
--Cropped, safari-style jacket from Gap, $14.99
--Textured thin-stripe capri pants in cream and gray, $9.99
--Slim-fitting, button-down white shirt by Ralph Lauren Polo Golf, $7.99
--Black jersey wrap dress with patch pockets and epaulet detail from Max Studio, $24.99
--Abercrombe & Fitch button-fly jeans, $9.99
--Mostly black color-block turtleneck with cream and red, $9.99
--Metallic Calvin Klein white-label loafers in a faux-croc material, $18 (the soles look like they've never hit the floor).
