John Hall, a Nobel laureate in physics, will give a talk at Montana State University Sept. 5 at 4:10 p.m.

Hall will discuss "The Optical Frequency Comb -- A Remarkable Tool for Metrology, Science and Medical Diagnostics" at MSU's Procrastinator Theater.

Course to combine yoga, horseback riding

Yoga educator, Amy Kraft and horsewoman and teacher, Deb Caniglia will hold a two-day class on yoga and horseback riding Aug. 9-10 in the Bitterroot Valley.

Kraft and Caniglia will show postures that open hips, improve balance and increase strength to benefit riding ability.

The class also will teach body awareness, breathing, relaxation techniques to relieve stress and more.

St. Peter's Association to hold meeting Sept. 3

St. Peter's Hospital Association's first meeting for 2008 will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 3 in the 123 Conference Rooms at the hospital. All are welcome; those attending should use the hospital's new main entrance.

The association is a volunteer organization that was formed in 1921 to support St. Peter's Hospital in providing healthcare services. Association members volunteer their time to support the hospital's gift shop and hospitality cart and coordinate several events. Association members also sew large red Christmas stockings in which all babies born at St. Peter's in December are sent home.

All the money raised by the association is given to the hospital and every year the association membership votes on how to allocate the funds raised to support priority needs at St. Peter's. Since its inception, the association has raised more than $500,000 for hospital services.

Tours of mental health facilities offered

Educate yourself about what programs are available in the greater Helena area for people suffering from mental illness.

The Center for Mental Health Foundation will host Beautiful Minds tours of the Center for Mental Health at 900 N. Jackson St. on the following dates: Aug. 5, 12 and 19. Tours begin at 11:30 a.m. and are completed in 45 minutes.

The tour includes the outpatient clinic and requires walking across the street to the Program for Assertive Community Treatment, the "hospital without walls" and the Care House, Helena's crisis stabilization facility. AIDS quilt panel deadline extended

The deadline for panel requests for the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt has been extended to this Friday.

The University of Montana and the Missoula AIDS Council are bringing the AIDS Quilt to the Adams Center Sept. 18-21. Friends and family with loved ones memorialized in the quilt can request those panels be displayed by calling the Missoula AIDS Council at (406) 543-4770.

Members of the community also are invited to make a panel for the AIDS Memorial Quilt to remember a loved one who passed away from an AIDS-related illness. Those wishing to create a panel are asked to use durable materials and a nonstretch, medium-weight fabric for the background. A completed panel should be 3 feet by 6 feet, and it is recommended that a half-inch border be left around the edge so it can be sewn together with other panels.

Panel designs can be vertical or horizontal and may include appliqué, paint, stencil, collage and photos on iron-on transfers. To induct a quilt panel at the Sept. 21 induction ceremony, contact the Missoula AIDS Council.

Seventy-five quilt blocks commemorating some 450 individuals who have died of AIDS-related illnesses will be showcased. All known panels honoring those from Montana who have died of AIDS, as well as others from around the nation, will be on view during the event.

Holistic Wellness Fair seeks exhibitors

Body, Mind & Spirit Fairs will have its third annual Holistic Wellness Fair in Helena Oct. 4-5 at the Red Lion Colonial Hotel.

Booth registration is currently under way for exhibitors, vendors, lecturers and workshop leaders. Healing of the self and the earth is the guiding theme, and exhibitors from the alternative health, sustainability, environmental and spirituality fields are encouraged to register.
