Scientist to speak on statistics applied to climate research
A free public lecture on the role of statistical science in understanding and quantifying uncertainty in climate research will be given Monday, March 23, at Montana State University.
Douglas Nychka, director of the Institute for Mathematics Applied to Geosciences and a senior scientist with the Geophysical Statistics Project at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, will speak at 4 p.m. in the Procrastinator Theater in the Strand Union Building. His lecture, titled "Climate Past, Present and Future," is part of MSU's Mathematical Sciences Colloquium Series.
The lecture is sponsored by the Department of Mathematical Sciences, the dean of the College of Letters and Science, the Office of the Vice President for Research, Creativity and Technology Transfer and the ASMSU Procrastinator Theater.

Rheumatologist to speak on managing arthritis

St. Peter's offering class to improve nutrition, health
"Stepping Out," a six-week motivational nutrition class designed to get people moving to improve their health, begins Tuesday, April 14, from 12-1 p.m. at St. Peter's Hospital.
Students are provided with pedometers to count every step they take toward their personal fitness goal.
Benefits of the class may include blood pressure and blood sugar control, weight loss, lower cholesterol and decreased depression.
Registered dietitian Jennifer Colegrove presents a different topic each week with tips and guidelines on what to eat to keep healthy and encourage disease prevention. Questions on fad diets, weight loss, carbohydrates and other topics will be discussed. The combination of daily movement along with healthy eating can bring a positive lifestyle and great health.
All ages are welcome and families are encouraged to participate. The class fee is $75, which covers materials, handouts, and prizes. A maximum of 10 students will be accepted. Register by April 6 at www.stptes.org or call 444-2130.
