Rides

The Helena Bicycle Club offers weekly mountain bike rides on Monday, road rides on Tuesday and Thursday, and various weekend rides.

Trolley to Trails

The trolley ride to the Mount Helena Ridge Trail begins Saturday. The trolley picks up hikers and bikers at the Woman's Mural on Broadway and Last Chance Gulch at 8 a.m., 8:40 a.m., and 9:20 a.m. and goes to the top of Grizzly Gulch.

Hikes

Join the Helena Outdoors Club on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at the Park Avenue Building near the library for weekly hikes on Mount Helena and the South Hills. Call 449-7971.

Bird walks

Birds & Beasley's will lead bird walks every Saturday at 7:30 a.m. The two-hour walks will very each week. Call 449-0904.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Camp Child

On July 24, Camp Child will host a three-day family camp, complete with canoeing, swimming, fishing, hiking and biking. The camp is $60 for YMCA members and $85 for nonmembers. On July 26-31, Camp Child will also host a camp for kids in the fifth grade, and on Aug. 19-14, and a camp for kids in grades six through eight. The cost is $215 for Y members and $240 for nonmembers. Call 442-9622.

Biathlon

On July 25, the Wilderness Sportsman's Club and the Seeley Lake Nordic Ski Club will host its first Seeley Lake Summer Biathlon at the shooting range on Morrell Creek Road. Call 406-677-2309.

Flower show

On July 25, Lewis and Clark Caverns will host a slideshow about flowers at 5:30 p.m. at the visitor center. The slideshow will compare species that are found in the park and discuss the differences in habitat that lead to plant life of East Coast versus west coast. Events are free to campers and Montana residents. Call 287-3541.

Bangtail Ride

On July 25, ride 23 miles of the longest, best single-track in the state with the Helena Bicycle Club. Enjoy spectacular views of Bridger Bowl, and Bridger and Crazy Mountains. Meet at the Albertson's parking lot on 11th Ave. at 7 a.m. Count on a five-hour ride so bring plenty of food and water. The ride requires a good fitness level but only moderate technical abilities. Outdoors Woman

On July 31, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will host its 16th annual ";Becoming an Outdoors-Woman" workshop at the Birch Creek Center near Dillon. The workshop offers the chance to build a survival shelter, cast a fly rod, shoot a rifle, and cook a Dutch-oven treat. New this year are classes on rowing a raft, nature journaling, knot tying and designing a native garden. Class are $200 and run through Aug. 31. Call 444-2615.
