Moonlight hike
On July 6, the Montana Discovery Foundation will host a moonlight hike. The group will meet at the Lewis & Clark Public Library parking lot around 6:45 p.m. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes, bring water and be prepared for a moderate trip that includes some uphill hiking. Call 495-3711.
FWP at state park
On July 7, the FWP commission will meet at the FWP Helena Headquarters at 4 p.m. to discuss a proposed right-of-way to the Tongue River Railroad Company over land occupied by FWP's Miles City Fish Hatchery. In the evening, the commissioners will meet informally at Spring Meadow State Park with the Upland Game Bird Council for a picnic.
FWP to talk quotas
On July 8 at 8:30 a.m., the FWP commission will make final decisions on the 2009 wolf quotas; the 2009 deer and elk quotas; the 2009 deer hunting access regulations for Marias River State Park and Wildlife Management Area; the 2009 antelope quota ranges; the 2009 upland game bird bag limits; renewal of a hunting access agreement near Lewistown; and acquisition of a fishing access site near Glendive.
Girl Scout climbers
On July 8 and 13, the Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming will host a rock climbing class. Girls in grades 2-5 will meet on July 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. while girls grades 6 and up will meet on July 13 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All gear will be provided as well as instruction and supervision. Mine tours
On July 11 and Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Montana Discovery Foundation will offer tours of the Charter Oak Mine and Mill. The site is on the National Register of Historic Places and provides insight into a unique slice of Americana. Call 406-495-3711.
