KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - Flathead County sheriff's deputies on Monday were surrounding the house of a 46-year-old Creston man suspected of killing his girlfriend.

Robert Kowalski's roommate called 911 at about 11 a.m. Sunday to report that Kowalski told him he shot his girlfriend and was feeling suicidal.

Sheriff Mike Meehan says Kowalski's girlfriend was found shot to death at her house near Columbia Falls. She has been identified as Lorraine Morrin, 45, the mother of six children ranging in age from 9 to 28.

Officers surrounded Kowalski's house at about 2 p.m. Sunday, but didn't confirm he was home until about 7 p.m., when a SWAT team broke some windows and Kowalski began swearing at them.

Officers remained at the house Monday morning.
