A Whitefish man in the Marine Corps has died in Iraq.

The Department of Defense says 25-year-old Cpl. Stewart S. Trejo died Thursday while supporting combat operations in Anbar province. The military announced the death Tuesday, did not immediately release further information about the circumstances of his death.

Trejo was in a unit based at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

He was the third Montanan to die of injuries suffered in Iraq over a nine-day period.

Sgt. Jimmy McHale of Fairfield was taken off life support at a military hospital on July 30 after being injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq and Army Pvt. Timothy J. Hutton of Dillon died on Aug. 4 of injuries not related to combat.

Gov. Brian Schweitzer has ordered that both the U.S. and Montana flags be flown at half staff in honor of Pvt. Hutton. The order is in effect beginning Wednesday, August 13, and concluding Thursday at sundown.
