The roof of Hardware Hank in Townsend was blown off Monday night during a storm that brought with it blizzard-like conditions.
According to Broadwater County Sheriff Brenda Ludwig, the roof of the store, located at 204 Broadway Street, was torn off by gusty winds. The roof then landed in a row of power lines, she said.
Officials were called in to cut the power so the scene could be investigated at about 9 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
The storm also led to signs being blown over, including the one to the Canyon Ferry Mansion, Ludwig said. In addition, at least one vehicle slide-off was reported in the Townsend area.
Monday night's forecast for the Townsend area called for a 50 percent chance of snow and a west wind with gusts up to 23 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather also caused havoc in Lewis and Clark County Monday evening.
Icy road conditions played a part in a one-vehicle rollover wreck on Highway 200 near mile marker 99 that caused minor injuries, Sheriff Leo Dutton said. At least six vehicle slide-offs were reported in the Canyon Creek area.
Two stop signs - one at Canyon Ferry Road and Wylie Drive and another on Lake Helena Drive - were blown over by the wind gusts, which were reported to be about 40 mph, Dutton said.
The wind caused a truck pulling a trailer to fishtail and veer off the road at Spokane Creek Road and Three Bars Road at about 5:30 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Dutton said these incidents serve as a reminder that Montana weather is unpredictable and he urges people to take caution.
