A lecture, "Understanding Terrorism" will be presented Monday, Sept. 18, at Carroll College.
Roman Pryjomko, senior technical adviser/partnership coordinator to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Rome, will deliver the free lecture. A native of England, Pryjomko spent three years in the late 1990s analyzing crime patterns, including terrorism trends in Karachi, Pakistan, and produced his analysis for the United Nations. The crime analysis system established in Karachi has proven instrumental in continuing campaigns to counter endemic violence and terrorism.
Pryjomko continues to work with leading global specialists in the emerging fields of fear/violence management and threat assessment.
He has undertaken assignments in more than 40 countries for clients such as the U.N., World Bank, European Union and private companies. Recently, he has focused his efforts on the establishment of working partnerships between the public, private and civil society sectors to support sustainable development initiatives, and also helped establish a home/refuge in Arusha, Tanzania, for children incarcerated in prison with their imprisoned mothers.
In the past decade, he has lived in the USA, South Africa, Kenya, the Bahamas, Spain, Poland and Italy. He maintains homes in Umbria, Italy, and Krakow, Poland.
In 2004, Pryjomko published his first book, "Someone, Somewhere -- Encounters with People and Places" (Trafford Publishing). He has also published articles in journals and occasionally contributes his views to newspapers.
His next book, "The Colors of Spring," is scheduled for release in 2007 and will recount the journey of his parents as Polish war refugees from internment in Siberia across Russia, Kazakhstan, Iran, and Pakistan to resettlements camps in East Africa from 1942-48. A film/documentary of this story is also in the planning stages for Italian Television.
