Pet of the Week

Shere Khan was named after a character in Disney's animated movie "The Jungle Book," so it's no surprise that this 2-year-old neutered male belonged to a child.

From the time he was a kitten, Shere Khan was the constant companion of a little boy, who had to surrender his friend when the family decided to have another baby. Maybe that little boy's loss can become a blessing for another child, because Shere Khan would be the perfect pet for a family with kids.

In the Disney movie, "Shere Khan" was a tiger, and you can see the resemblance. Our Shere Khan has golden eyes and tawny fur with white markings. His fur is soft and long, but very easy to keep groomed.

Here's a big difference, though: in the movie, Shere Khan was a meanie, but our Shere Khan is as gentle as can be. He's wonderful with children and doesn't mind being cuddled or carried around. He's also great with other cats, and we believe he'd adapt to dogs too.

With summer over and kids going back to school, it's a great time to add a pet who would snuggle with them while they do homework and sleep with them on winter nights. Kids and adults can meet Shere Khan today between noon and 3 p.m. at the Lewis and Clark Library, 120 South Last Chance Gulch.

Many other adoptable cats and dogs are waiting for you at the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, 2112 East Custer Ave. The shelter's telephone number is 442-1660.
