Jefferson High School drama students present the beloved musical, "The Sound of Music," at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6.

With music and lyrics by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein, the show is filled with beautiful songs -- such as "Edelweiss," "Climb Every Mountain" and "The Sound of Music."

The show is adapted from the true story of the world famous Von Trapp Family Singers, a family with 10 children who performed all over the world.

Set in Austria in 1938, as Hitler prepares to annex the country into Germany, Austrian naval hero, Captain Von Trapp, hires Maria, a novice nun, as a nanny.

Maria brings music into their lives transforming the children into vibrant, happy youngsters.

The musical is a joint production with the advanced acting students and the JHS choir and band under the direction of Charles Garnaas.

A special silent auction will be held during the show to benefit the 2009 drama trip to Greece and Turkey.

Audience members will have a unique opportunity to purchase holiday gift certificates and gifts.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students and are available at the door. For group reservations or more information contact Linda Piccolo at 225-3317 ext. 105.
