Search and rescue efforts were under way Wednesday night after a 62-year-old Texas man was bucked off his horse northwest of Augusta.
Don Jones, of Hemphill, Texas, was hunting with some friends from Great Falls when he suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton.
Jones, who was in stable condition, was unable to walk and stuck on a rock cliff in Home Gulch.
“This makes the rescue very difficult,” Dutton said.
A friend initially called 911 at 12:38 p.m. Rescue efforts went into the night after a MercyFlight helicopter was unable to land due to high winds, Dutton said. Jones was loaded onto a wheeled gurney, which was led to an all-terrain vehicle, then to an awaiting ambulance, which transported him to the hospital at about 7 p.m.
A Lewis and Clark Search and Rescue crew was joined on the scene by the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Augusta Ambulance.
