Kitty victim of too many pets; comes with letter of recommendation

The Fourth of July means parades, parties and fireworks. That's too much excitement for Kissa, who is shy in strange situations and startled by loud noises.

In a quieter setting, though, she is very sweet, and she's fine with other cats, friendly dogs and respectful children.

Kissa is a spayed female, 4-years old, whose name (pronounced Key-suh) means "kitty cat" in Finnish. She was given that name by a family that got her as a kitten but had to surrender her because she was "one pet too many." They left a letter, which potential adopters can read, and it sings her praises and gives tidbits about her personality.

We learned, for example, that she's in excellent health, very tidy, and happy to be indoors if she can bask by a sunny window. She loves tuna as a noontime treat, and her favorite toys are very tiny paper balls. And, she enjoys watching "Animal Planet" on TV.

Intrigued? Come meet Kissa at the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, 2112 East Custer Ave. The shelter will be closed today for Independence Day, and over the weekend, but will reopen as usual at noon on Tuesday. You can also telephone the shelter at 442-1660.
