Police are investigating the report of a man brandishing a gun at a Helena motel Wednesday night.
According to Helena Police Chief Troy McGee, a man entered a female acquaintance's room at Motel 6 on the 800 block of North Oregon Street at about 10:30 p.m. and physically assaulted her. He showed her a handgun, which was in a holster underneath his coat.
The suspect then fought with another man in the motel room and then fled the scene in a vehicle, McGee said.
The woman suffered minor injuries in the assault but did not require medical treatment, he added.
Police have a suspect and possible charges are pending, McGee said.
Also, while investigating the incident, police questioned a man who was standing on a balcony at the motel. Although the man was not a part of the initial call, the officer found that he appeared to be drunk and was in possession of a concealed gun for which he had a permit, McGee said.
The man, a 49-year-old from Thompson Falls, was cited for a misdemeanor for carrying a concealed weapon while under the influence of an intoxicating substance, and the gun was seized.
