A teenage girl died and another woman was injured after a two-vehicle crash on Green Meadow Drive near Foxborro Lane Monday evening, the second such fatality in less than a month.

Jessica Lynn Bright, 17, a junior at Capital High School, died at the scene of the wreck, according to Lewis and Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson.

A Helena woman in her mid-20s was transported by ambulance to St. Peter's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Jeramy Rice.

The woman underwent surgery for her injuries. Her condition was not immediately known.

Rice said Bright, who was not wearing a seat belt, was driving a Honda sedan heading north. She drifted off the side of the road, overcorrected and was struck on the driver's side by the woman's southbound Ford Taurus.

The woman, who was extricated from her vehicle, was wearing her seat belt and her station wagon's airbags deployed, Rice said.

The Honda sedan did not have airbags.

The cause of the wreck, which occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m., remains under investigation. Traffic on Green Meadow Drive was diverted for about two hours while officials surveyed the scene.The Montana Highway Patrol was joined by the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office, St. Peter's Ambulance and West Valley and Lewis and Clark County volunteer fire departments.

This crash occurred roughly one mile north of where Angela Mae Dwyer, also a Capital High School 17-year-old, died in a car wreck just 20 days earlier on Sept. 2.

Helena Public Schools Superintendent Bruce Messinger late Monday night said the high school's grief counseling team will be available this morning for students and staff. Bright's younger brother, Ray, is a freshman at Capital High School.
