Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday broke records with cold temperatures in Helena, officials say.
James Oh, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Sunday's high and low temperatures were record breaking. The high of 26 degrees on Sunday broke the record of 30 degrees set in 1899 and the low at 3 a.m. of 14 degrees broke the 1881 record of 17 degrees, he said.
Similarly on Saturday, the low of 9 degrees broke the 1987 record of 15 degrees and the high of 25 broke the 1959 record of 36 degrees.
Oh said the week will slowly warm up about five to 10 degrees each day. He said today's forecast is a high of 32 degrees, which is 17 degrees warmer than on Sunday.
By Wednesday the Queen City is expected to warm up to the 50 degrees, but unsettled weather will move in late Tuesday with a 40 percent chance of snow and rain, Oh said.
Residents could awake to some snow covering Wednesday morning, but the precipitation will turn to rain because temperatures are expected to be well above freezing, he added.
