Wolves injured a guard dog and killed a domestic goat on private land north of Helena during the past few weeks, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks said on Wednesday.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services confirmed the depredations on March 12.

It's not known if the guard dog will survive.

This is the third incident in less than a year involving goats, dogs and wolves north of Helena. In June, a guard dog on a ranch was killed by wolves, and a domestic goat was killed in October.

Officials said they believe the Mitchell Mountain Pack is involved in the depredations. The existence of the pack, consisting of five to seven wolves, was recently confirmed. FWP authorized Wildlife Services to kill two wolves in the pack.

More information wasn't available late Wednesday.
